weekend update:

yes!

<img src=" photo manual_zpsd1119682.jpg" />

All installed, should have taken another shot with just the bell in place but kept grabbing parts in the excitement of it all. Still need to work on the broken bolt on the left side of the crossmember.

Feels like a proper car in here now!

The suspension and brakes are still in pieces, should be done in a few more days.

Suspension and brakes are all together. Just a few more details and I can finally test this thing out!

I didn't notice the jacket until I was posting the picture, wondered if anyone would pick up on it. Now, can I grow a worthwhile mullet by November?

Far easier to just get a wig and a trucker's ball cap.

Nice job on the manual swap. Did you have to cut a hole or make any other modifications to the tunnel of the previously automatic car?

Yes, cutting a hole is required. Nerve wracking event that was.

It holds over a quart, I take oil filtration seriously...

Yes it fits. It hangs no lower than the oil pan, and the crossmember is lower than the filter.

Where'd you get that big berkeleyer?

it's meant for medium duty Chevy trucks. 427 V8. Spun one onto my pick-up when I got it too. With no history on the engine, I figured a big filter would take much longer to fill with crap and create less restriction while doing it. Local O-reilys had it.

Uh-oh.

Test drive didn't even get out of the garage.

Push in the clutch and you cannot select a gear, it's like you're not pushing in the clutch. Shut off car, select a gear and restart. Release clutch, car won't move.

Berkley.

Took everything back apart, (berkley), and cannot find anything wrong. Disc is facing correct way and you can see on the flywheel where it is touching. There are no marks on the pressure plate though. Hmmmmm

Disc fits the input shaft fine. With the trans out, I tried each gear and everything seems to rotate as it should.

cross posted to the regular board in hopes of more views for more help

Is the slave moving?

I had a similar issue (though, it seems not the same). I was using a saginaw 4 speed behind a 350. The input shaft of the trans was crushing up against the pilot bearing. I had to shim the gearbox back about 1/8". After that, no problem.

Also, the clutch was IMPOSSIBLE to bleed. I had to bleed it by pushing fluid UP from the clutch slave.

my s10 five speed swap did the same. had to start it in gear and release the clutch miving it a little a few tiunmes to get the tranny lubed up properly. also had to remove the slave, rotate while vacuum bleeding to get all the air out.

where did you hook your vacuum bleeder up? There aren't and bleeder screws, just the reservoir.

ah. mine had a bleeder on the slave. (s10. assumed firebirds are the same....)

so how would you bleed without a bleeder?

Just curious so the clutch slave and master come together in the mail as one piece with fluid? Don't see how they could come pre-bleed and stay that way, boxes do turn over.

I do know Ford and Mazda have used slaves with no bleed screws, these require you to reverse bleed them. Best way is to assembly them together out of car, bleed and attempt to install them as one. I had a Mazda Tribute with a clutch slave that required reverse bleeding
