So this project is going slow to non-existant at this point due to my move, but I have to clear out my garage yet to be able to pull this in to work on it. Anyways, I was at Wally World the other night and I was walking past the tires.
Now before I go any further, I want to get some tires specifically for Rallycrossing, however I don't want to buy anything too expensive. I have a second set of wheels, so it's not a huge deal to have a second set for Rallycrossing.
So anyways I came across these. Goodyear Wrangler Radials. These were actually the factory tires for XJs in the late 80s/early 90s, same tread pattern and all. They come in my size and are $85 each.

The tires I have now on the Jeep are General Grabber AWs. While they are great on the street, they are not good off road tires which I learned the hard way especially if there is any mud.
So what say ye? Walmart has always had these tires and I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon, so as soon as I accumulate money for this project, I can pick some of these up.
Oh what the hell. My picture is sideways.
That's what I get from posting from my phone. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)

I assume your current tires are 235/75R15?
I just realized I have 225/75R15s. I think they carry 225s, I'll have to double check. If not, 235s should be fine.
I'm not going to enable you. I'm not going to enable you.......
Those tires don't look to have a particularly open tread pattern. Are they M+S rated? If not, I'd pass on them for rallycross. Find some cheap M+S all-terrains.
In reply to irish44j:
I don't think they are. I want something cheap though. Aren't snow tires relatively cheap? I know guys are using snow tires for Rallycross as a cheap alterative to rally tires.
Assuming you can find the right size, I bet you could lower the center of gravity and find a good snow tire if you look for something with less sidewall. Maybe a 235/50 R15.
Those goodyears are what I run on my XJ, in that same size.
They're terrible. They refuse to wear through the tread though.
But seriously bad tires. Can't wait to get rid of them.
In reply to Swank Force One:
Horrible on dry pavement? or Dirt?
I haven't found anything they're good at. I haven't rallycrossed on them but they've been down some dirt roads.
Ok, well scratch that then. I don't really want all terrain tires because they are all relatively expensive.
I'll start looking at smaller sidewall snow tires. Like Nitro said, it will lower my center of gravity.
