People think these are expensive or hard to find

The only good thing about being in salt country is the abundance of rotted out GM products that are so willing give up their drivetrains.
transmission mounts gone... real pain the butt. Not my best work, not a fan of the cut off wheel and limited space. First set of gloves burned up in the action.
Maxpeedingrods arrived today 10:11 installed by 11:30.
I think the rear will be extremely low, I actually had to adjust the lower perches on the front so they would reach to bolt up.
How is the quality of the camber plates on the front coilovers? I've had my eye on them for a bit, even if just for the camber plates.

They are pretty light weight, I'm skeptical of the longevity of the coil overs but at $184 with Patrick's discount code I didn't see a better option available.
Some days I struggle with sticking to the challenge budget because it's easy to just go to a known quality parts manufacturer and hit the order button.
Engine bay is "painted" as much as it's getting painted for now. Plan is to put the engine in place on Wednesday, have someone coming to help me.
For some reason I purchased a microsquirt with harness for a LS.
My wife has really put me to work at home, supposed to paint 5 rooms this month.
In reply to Patrick :
Holy crap! I never really thought this rule through before.
So you can essentially buy whatever parts you need for the build, and then self-trade something from your zero'd out parts car. Assuming both parts are of the same FMV.
Seems like it takes a lot of the hardwork out of finding the right trading partner at a swap meet or similar. Yes, my Honda HX wheels are worth the same amount as the paint I need, but who the hell is going to trade me a gallon of metallic neon green paint for a set of semi-obscure 14 inch Honda wheels?
Thanks, I hate this rule.
In reply to CrustyRedXpress :
All fun till you can't find 3 listings of a LSD from an 87 RX7 GXL to get a FMV
Yeah, the self-trade at FMV is a bit suspicious in my mind too. It's basically the same thing as opening up the recoup limit to as much stuff as you can sell from $3000 worth of parts vehicles, without actually having to sell anything.
Luckily no one has really taken it to the dick level yet.
But if you wanted to, I'd start by buying an LS motor and trans donor for $1k, and zeroing it. Then spend $500 on an explorer for the rear axle, then you have $1500 left to buy parts cars with the largest contributing parts FMV, and make sure one of the cars is your challenge platform. You can then self trade just about anything you need since you have 3-4 parts cars sitting around with huge FMV potential, and everything is already in budget. Need a nitrous kit? No problem, there's a parts car out back with $200 taillights. Self trade! Dculberson netted like $7k out of a $1500 parts car so now after you have the engine trans and rear axle you should be able to build a hell of a car with the remaining $7k.
In reply to Robbie :
This is why I don't like the rule. I've asked for clarity on the rule and it seems to be staying until someone abuses it.
I do like the new guidance for establishing FMV with finding 3 similar adds. 3 similar adds takes the trade value up even if you "only" paid $75 for your nitrous kit. For the most part I don't agree with values given on forum posts because we are all cheapskates.
In reply to Robbie :
The Wartburg is so well bought that my build spreadsheet would take self trading at fmv through the dick level stratosphere to make the number say $2000 when done. One of the reasons I don't feel bad about not finishing it in time, but i kinda also was going for "i'm gonna be that guy and abuse this rule so hard that they'll either change or condone it" because I don't care for it

at this point, the paint came out so nice that i'm not willing to stick tires a foot past the body and blast it with parking lot gravel. I have not ruled it out of ever coming though. This year definitely is not it.
My mother is a genius. I was looking at Miatas on Facebook marketplace and told my mom I’d really like to get a nice one. She said, “Are you getting one for Chelsea(my wife) for Christmas?”
Brilliant plan mom
Chelsea needs a miata. I bought my wife an mr2 when we 1st got married.
They are not the best cars with a little one on the way so a mini van might be a better option.
I just bought a gxl diff off this forum for 150 with a car attached.
Do you need any chassis parts? I already posted elsewhere that they are free to a good home. Just let me know.
In reply to pimpm3 :
Definitely will be looking to pick up a minivan next fall. With the current prices of nice Miatas I might just get a porsche boxster. So if you see a good deal on an odyssey or sienna with leather seats and a backup camera let me know.

I really don't "need" anything unless it is a "complete" car. Our local RX7 part out guy quoted me $250 for a GXL differential with axles. I only paid $125 for my Turbo 2 with axles.
I do have an entire car. What do you need?
The interior is intact and no rips or tears, but currently a bit moldy....
Drivetrain is going to my buddy if I get it freed up.
