I got notifications about this thread... I never did buy one, though it was high on my list of considerations. Ultimately, once the Focus ST was announced, my car was chosen. I am glad to hear that the Elantra has been a worthwhile car to own... good things do sometimes come in cheap packages. :)

Hyundai gave me a "Rewards Card" for the mileage conflict. Mileage inspected around 100K by dealer, card value to date is $393.31.

This continues as long as I have the car.

300K will take another grand off the purchase price.

Funny you mention the 60K timing belt interval.

I had my 2011 GLS (1.8l PZEV) in at 56k miles for an oils change and the service writer was trying to book me for a 60k service and insisted that it had a timing belt that needed to be changed. It took two service writers, the service manager, and finally a search on the hmaservice site for them to admit it doesn't have a timing belt.

Of course these same people when put on the spot to explain why they recommend the severe duty schedule, could only come up with "because Massachusetts has hot and cold weather".

I don't use the severe duty service schedule, and I do 1500 miles a week. It doesn't tow. and most of the mileage is highway, that's not severe, just a LOT.

I've been following the normal schedule as well. Over 95% of my driving is highway and the typical trip is 65 miles.

I'm debating whether or not to change the tranny fluid at 60k though. Any thought out there?

There is no drain plug on the transmission, at least on my manual

I have an automatic. I decided the wait to get one with a manual wasn't something I wanted to do, and I wanted the convenience of Bluetooth.

It's odd, the severe schedule for the tranny is 60k miles, but for normal duty the fluid is lifetime. Not sure I believe the fluid in an auto can be lifetime since the friction material wears and ends up in the fluid, but I suppose with enough filter capacity it's possible.

My commute is changing from 65 miles each way, to 20 miles each way. Still mainly highway, but some traffic lights thrown in. So that is something I need to consider going forward.

I went with the Platinum LX as recommended by Bobzilla, after all he recommended the car which has been nothing short of awesome.

Now if the damned weather would clear up long enough to install the Summer rims and tires, I could test them out.

I'm wishing I'd put the Plat's on the SeX. The 4X is a good tire, but's it's a bit noisy compared to the Plats.

Not yet, I will probably try to get them from Tire Rack this week

It ticked over 120K, did an oil change and brought my wife to Cleveland for surgery.

This is the most trouble free car I have ever owned.

Stick shift whipped the Valet, they had to get a little girl to park it, snicker

I've had two sets (one on my 02 Elantra, one set on the wife's Accent). The Elantra went 45k trouble free miles until a crater in the road popped one. They were down to 4-5/32 all around so I changed the whole set. Loved every moment of them. The wife's car has about 20k on them now and they still look new. Transformed that little pile of crap. It actually drives and rides decent. For a complete and utter crap box. With 2?0k miles.

This car has been fantastic, kudos to Bobzilla for the help.

122K, nothing changed beyond one set of plugs, a K&N air filter insert and a cabin filter.

The wife's 12 has 45K on it now and has been just as reliable.

128K, nothing new to add.

We just took ours in for the recall. First time it's been back. Has 23k on it. Had them do an oil change cause it was due and they are replacing a motor mount that was causing a noise in reverse with the a/c on under warranty. I'VE heard that was a common problem on a run of them, until they revised the mount.

Wife still loves the car, no complaints from me either. Starting to think about replacement tires. Never a fan of the stockers and they're getting very loud.

71K on 2011 Elantra Touring SE...nursing this set of summer tires for 3 more months...

No major complaints, and the dealer has been great with any of the little things that have come up. Very happy with Hyundai experience...however not happy that you can't get a 3 pedal Sonata any more. Am wanting a larger sedan again...and I do not like automatics.
