If you havent been to G20.net, then youre missing out. TONS of good stuff there. I sold my last P11 in Jan of 15, and havent been back there much, but I was on there with the same screen name.
Another cheap mod that the SR20 likes are SUPER STIFF mounts. I made some HOCKEY PUCK MOUNTS for my P11 (P10 mounts are mostly similar, except the front lower is narrower IIRC). Best $5 I ever spent on mods.
Cool project man, I've had a soft sport for these ever since Gran Tourismo on the PS1. I prefer the Castrol Racing livery to the Calsonic, but to each his own.
There was a guy making a replica BTCC version but that one went south, still an interesting read, lots of weight reduction going on, which is pretty much free HP.
Good luck in your build and hope to see your car at the challenge.

We went with Bilstein B6 dampers, and "generic" lowering springs (that are too soft) in our race car. If rules would allow, coilovers would have been my bet since you can easily get harder springs.
The other option is finding another set of springs that work. Our rules don't allow anything but almost standard diameter springs and that limits the choices somewhat.
The P10 splitter looks interesting, might give that a try :-)

Man you have some great ideas! I have been on g20.net a ton. Great stuff on there. Thank for following my build. as you see fit I would love input.

Same here! GT was my game. I too prefer the castrol car. However for the sake of easy livery and cost the calsonic paint job is easier to do based on my skills. Blue paint. white vinyl... Done! I have see the BTCC replica build. Its really sad it didn't get finished. Just got the car picked up today. Ready for weight reduction soon!
Update Time!
I finally got the chance to go pick up the G. I have been slammed at work and my buddy here in Gainesville that has been in on this project with me and my dad has been struggling with his Sons health issues. Good news is he is doing much better. None the less I needed to pick it up asap as the owner was ready to rip my head off for taking so long to get it. I am currently in a transitional phase of vehicles and I don't have a truck or trailer at the moment. But of course my amazing friends stepped in! My racing buddy let me borrow one of his trailers and some friends from my church let me borrow their MINT 7.3 f250. Oh baby do I miss having a big diesel truck it towed that car and trailer with ease!

One of the things i was worried about with the car was that since it had been in a wreck and i had basically purchased it sight unseen was that the damage upfront may be worse than advertised. To my delight it is all very fixable and shouldn't take much to get her back on her feet. AND! the owner had forgotten that he had a hood and bumper that he had purchased over a year ago to fix it and never did. (yes its been sitting for over a year)... Bumper and hood aren't in great shape but they were free and will work for what I'm trying to do.

The interior is toast. Like really toast. Worse than i had expected and I was hoping to be able to recoup some $$$ from the interior. But there will be other items to get that $300 down to ZERO. On the plus side it did come with a ebay .50cal shift nob so that adds like 25hp easy, right...?

The goal is to get the car ready to complete at the FREEEE Track day at the Florida International Rally Motorsports Park in Starke Florida on July 22nd. The FIRM is my home away from home and I know it will be a good opportunity to give it a shake down. Thanks for following this thread! Stay tuned!

Nice start. Are you doing the build in an apartment/condo parking lot? Nice cojones if so.
In reply to Stampie:
YEZZIR... At the moment this is the setup for part one of the build. This is how i have always wrenched. Sadly i cannot call myself a shade tree mechanic, but no trees for shade here (sooo hot). We just moved back to Gainesville and have been renting a small apartment until we can find a house. We should be moving in November I hope. Any crazy stuff can be done at a my friends farm if needed. He has a great space. This will be my version of a parking lot build haha

I'll be curious to see how you handle that dash, I have similar issues with my TL that I should address eventually.
If you can get Bilsteins on the cheap, you could roll your own coilovers with ebay sleeves. The Miata crowd has done this with good success.

Check out Funk Racing Supply on Facebook (or ride down here to Orlando-he's based here). He'll have hundreds of leftover NASCAR springs (Hyperco, Eibach) and shocks for next to nothing. I believe he'll even let you switch them out if they're not the right weight for you
In reply to sleepyhead:
I will probably remove the entire thing. But if we choose to keep it we would just use an epoxy filler on it and sand it down and paint it. It is a bummer that there is so much sun damage but its always been a Florida car so ill take sun damage any day over rust.

This is a great contact thanks so much. I found a similar ebay store that sells similar springs. My current plan is to cut the housings and drain the fluid and put in a heavier weight and then weld the tops back on the struts and run the nascar style heavier springs for the challenge. I know a guy who has run this setup for a while. I love the idea of running bilstein inserts and coilovers and that may happen for the 2018 challenge. Our budget is pretty tight right now for this build and the goal is finish the car for the 2017 challenge for under 1K.
Another question. As far as documenting the purchase price of the car. I paid cash for the car and all i have is a bill of sale.. So far we have a whopping $300 bucks in the car and it runs and drives great. We could literally run the car at the challenge tomorrow with wheels and tires. Things car guys get proud about. Haha
Bill of sale will be fine.
In reply to John Welsh :
Thanks John! Enjoyed watching you run at the ziptie drags on live! I don't know if you saw any of it but freiburger had no idea what the car was and just kept calling it a nondescript Japanese luxury car haha.
In reply to B13Birk:
Since it runs fine and you're not gonna do major mods this year, why don't you do 24 hour hotel parking lot build? Lot of guys would jump in to help.
I mean you're gonna be doing it in your apartment lot anyway
In reply to Ovid_and_Flem:
I like the idea of doing a parking lot build. With this one though i really want to take my time with it as it will have a life after the GRM challenge. However since I do live just a few miles from GIR i would love to do a parking lot build next year as well as help with any this year that may be happening. Rumor has it there may be a PT cruiser build going on?
In reply to rodknock:
That is a great idea. Thanks for the Link! That may be the direction we are going in but it may be modified stock struts with either cheap used circle track springs or the coil over solution you mentioned. Thanks for the input my friend!

Cutting/welding the struts to change shock oil sounds like a pain. My dad would change oil on his old stock cars buy drilling a hole at the top, empty and refill the shock, and plugging the hole with a screw.

I literally just scrapped a 1995 G20t before you started this thread. I have the headlights still if you need them. Free to a fellow GRM'er...
In reply to pimpm3:
Oh man I wish I had known that! Yeah I would love the head lights that would be great thank you so much! Shoot me an email and we can figure out how i can pay you for shipping and such. birkmire.jon9151@gmail.com. Are those the only parts you have left?
In reply to pimpm3:
I agree that it would be a pain. That solution does sound much better. The G20 guy who has done this modification before said cutting was what he did. I didn't even think about drilling a hole! That will be what i try first! Thanks a ton for the input.
Got off work today late today. Mondays are most of my meetings I was pretty wiped out but i was really looking forward to digging into the interior and seeing if there was rust under the wet carpet. the passenger window hasn't been rolled up in over a year.
Digging in! Maybe my neighbors hate on me on days like this. I'm really lucky to have a wife that supports my automotive pursuits.

Apparently many many moons ago a lizard left his head in the G20.

Done. Man the seats were heavy. I would say easily 150lbs ripped out so far. Another 50lbs of heater and AC parts as well as roughly 100lbs of sound proofing and such based on what other G20 builders have removed and weighed. Time to get some dry ice.

Too bad you already have a theme, this would make a killer new hood ornament (head ornament?)
