The Benz, the Boys: An American Adventure
Well, thanks to JTHW8 's persistence and encouragement a few buddies and i have decided to do this years BABE Rally.
It started off, as all good stories do, with a night of too much beer drinking. I figured that idea of this rally would be long forgotten by everyone in the next mornings fog and headaches.
Much to my surprise i was wrong.
Mike had offered to let us use a Mercedes Benz he had bought recently for under BABE budget.
1985 Mercedes Benz 300D. (turbo diesel if your not MB familiar) When the odometer stopped working at some unknown point a while ago it had 203, 000 miles on it. It had been sitting a while then used as a beater for a while. The rear seat was re-purposed as a kennel for the P.O dog. Mike said when he first vacuumed it he was pulled out hair clumps by the handful. Also because of this, the car had a particular odor to it. First day we just planned some ideas out for the trip, had a few beers and things got rolling.
I took it home for a week and got it clean...sanitary enough to use for the trip. Drives pretty decent. Brakes skreetch as you come to a stop and the cruise control has fits of random on/off spurts that will make you want to have your neck checked at the doctors. Until its good and warmed up, you have a better chance of beating it in quarter mile race on foot and even then it would hardly be a contest. Its rusty. it has rust and there is a good amount of rust.
Perfect car to take on BABE Rally 2013.
Still a lot to do in a very short amount of time. (we all work, we dont exactly live up the street from each other, and things have been hectic) Car needs to have the theme we picked applied, add in a few cig lighter outlets and a cb and well be on our way.
Two (?) weeks ago i cleaned all the fuse box contacts and got all that working better. the headlights now work That same night there was a bunch of people over and there was beer and next thing ya know...
i was thinking a quick peel and squeal but Mike kept at it and it just grew and grew
it did a mean burnout.
I presume the K.I.S.S method is best for the event? Just bring a running car and call it a day.
So there is the start of another adventure. Hope it goes well
