When I just had it running, its a lot less noticeable now in the exhaust.

The tick is pretty loud now. Added some engine flush and going to change oil and filter, see if it helps at all, hopefully something stuck. Also going to lift the cap and see how disgusting it is inside the distributor. And get it up to temp to see if the cooling fan kicks in. But first, coffee and food and then think a bit.

A few days have passed, and unfortunately she did not make the drags. Saturday I spent the day installing the interior and debating about the ticking noise.

I did drain the oil out, a total of 9L came out of the crank case and smelt of old old fuel. Berkley. So it looks like ol' 305 won't be long for this world after all. I do need to pull the tank to change the sending unit as it is very faulty. And now after installing majority of the center console (still missing the 'ball' for the gear selector) now the car won't start, and to avoid risk of flooding the engine again I am going to look at possibly swapping out another fuel pump mostly so I can get the engine to temp and see if it still has oil pressure at temp.

Upside Electric fan circuit is 100% functional!! Even tho the fan itself sounds about as healthy as a dying animal it still moves enough air to drop the temperature.

Progress will slow down a little bit as I had 'hoped' (dreamed?) to be able to drive it but I need to get it:

A) Reliably starting and running. Need to address the positive and negative battery connections. Possibly the fuel pump quit, so there is that to change.

B) Reliably stopping properly. Feels like there is blockage at the hose so hopefully I can pull apart the hose from the line and get it sorted and stopping.

Budget friendly sidepipe 3o5. Still need to find why it kills a battery when it sits, good chance something is drawing power since half the interior is missing.

It runs and drives! I took it out on the first road adventure in 14 years last weekend after replacing the headlights and front turn signal bulbs, and I gave it a quick wash at home. It needs a bunch of little work but she's coming along nicely. Needs a bit more of a tune up yet as well. But on to pics!

Engine bay reassembled. I painted the air cleaner lid black because I was not a fan of the chrome look on THIS engine presently. It looked way to 'boy racer' for my taste.

Minor shop tour!

I really enjoy a clean and organized work space. and being able to open doors is a major bonus!

So when I got to town I had to stop by my buddy's shop since he happened to have his 80's gem out as well...

I then swung by work and the boss told me we were setting valves, after he took my picture with the car of course. I have the drivers side skirt, it had the hardware removed from it so I need to find that so I can attach it. Also, it was never a stuck valve. The stud for the rocker arm had actually started to work its way out, so we fixed that by pulling it out completely, cleaning it and the hole, adding some loctite and putting it back in. Hopefully it holds long enough to be drivable a few times this summer while I get everything else for the vortec heads to go on.

At least it photographs well for an old IROC, even if the hood is open.

I am sure I will have more pictures later, I am thinking I may tke it to the dyno weekend in a couple weeks, just to see how bad it actually is for power! I really need to find a new seat for driving it. It has a permanent 'gangster lean' going on.
