yes, the crank is a split-pin crank due to the even firing order engine architecture, but it is forged and it does not seem to be a weak point of these motors so we are hoping it will hold up. There really is no other option for crank for this motor either, so we have no other choice but to use it.
It's been a real PITA trying to get parts for a V10, performance parts, anyways. We have had to buy two sets of V8 parts in some cases (some valvetrain stuff and main bearings), but thankfully, pistons, rods, and all the really expensive components we've been able to call the companies and order sets of 10. We just had a call with ARP a few nights ago to get part numbers for individual studs, nuts, washers, etc. So we can call up dealers and get the extra 2 everything we need for a V10 application. We really don't want to have to buy 2 sets of head studs and main bolts... that gets really expensive really fast.

Solution to the parts sourcing issue, buy five sets of the V8 parts, make four engines. It's kinda like the old hot dog / bun problem. =P
This is an absolutely amazing build. I can't believe you don't have more views and engagement from this.
I only have one question.
What is the benefit of going to a divided Plenum and splitting the two banks?
Obviously you did it for a reason I just don't know what it is.
What are you going to put this beast in?

We divided the two plenums to avoid potential air starvation issues since the even firing order means opposite pistons will fire right after each other. We researched other even fire V10s and it seems plenums are always kept separate, usually they have two completely separate intakes, once for each bank (think Audi V10).

We have a vehicle, but we have not announced it yet. We're waiting to be a bit more along on the build before we unveil the vehicle it's going in. Needless to say, I think most people will be surprised, and hopefully very excited.

Ok, thinking about it, I have one more question... from my understanding it looks as though the head is completely divided in the middle at the welded joint and there is no free exchange of coolant across the head anymore, so do you have any concerns about coolant flow or overheating or hotspots or bleeding?
I recommend you put this engine in a GT 40 kit car.

You are right, we did block off both halves before welding the heads together (you can see that on Episode 2). The plan is to send coolant to each half of the heads separately, so the front half will get coolant and the back half will also get coolant. There won't be coolant flow from one half to the other, but each half will be cooled, so we don't expect any issues.

Thank you! We just got hit with some pretty bad news from the guy that was allegedly machining our cams... turns out, well, he wasn't! So we just wasted 5 months waiting for this guy. Back to ground zero on cams, we'll be spending all this week reaching out to machine shops to see who can machine the cores for us.

They worked with me on an odd ball custom regrind when nobody else would about 8 years ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. We'll give them a try. The struggle has been that none of the big (or even small) cam companies have the ability to machine custom cores, which is what we need. If they do have the ability, which so far has only been two companies, they want some astronomical amount for them or want a minimum order. We're reaching out to multiple machine shops to see if anyone can turn us some round lobe cams and we'll have to work with grinders to get the finished product. All hands on deck!

Dunno how much of your IP you want to put out there in the wild, but since cam blanks are pretty generic, maybe post some drawings and let the internet start hunting for someone alongside you.
I've never tried to source custom cams, but it seems like the lobes would be the hard part. The blank seems like it'd be a relatively simple round bit that any decent shop with the right size lathe could turn.

I don't know if we're too worried about our IP right now, there really isn't a market for these cams anywhere since it also requires custom heads, but we'll see. I think we're going to just try and reach out to as many options as possible this time. Received multiple quotes from Alibaba, so that's progress. Now just need to sort through them and choose the company that makes the most sense/seems safest. We're also waiting for a quote on the blanks from a local shop, that will be our option 1 if the quotes come back reasonable.

You will get charged a bunch of $$ and then receive a piece of scrap cast iron with some grinder marks on it.
The people on there just want your $$ and they don't care about what happens after that.
I unfortunately have experience with them screwing up things I ordered and then refusing to cooperate to fix their junk.
It was just like I said. They sent stuff that was way wrong and then acted like I got exactly what I ordered then stopped responding.
Not exactly a 4V V10 build video, but still related.
We've gotten lots of comments from people saying our engine will blow up because we're removing the balance shaft, so we decided to make a video entirely dedicated to answering the question: Will the Ford V10 blow up without a balance shaft?

We did end up ordering a sample spool from a China supplier just to see what it looks like. Curiosity killed the cat!
However, we also found a cam manufacturer in Sweden (AGAP) that is able to make the cam cores for us, so we're working with them. We'll get the machined billet cores from them, and we'll have Bullet heat treat and finish grind them.
Now it's just a waiting game. They told us about a 8 week lead time, but I'm hoping they can squeeze them in sooner than that.
