Anyone have any cool 96" wheelbase ideas?
This will be C4,V4!
V1 Bugatti - 8th overall
V2 Early IMSA - 3rd overall
V3 Later IMSA - 3rd overall (by like .002 pts!!)
V4 ...????....
corvair van / pickup. they were named corvair 95 because of the 95" wheelbase.
monzora would not have happened if i had found a $100 rampside before i found the $100 coupe.
It has a 90" wheelbase, but...
Dug this out of cold storage because time is getting short....
How did it get sooooo dirty?
Hmmmm what to do?
Ahhh yes, the new crew chief needs to earn some stripes!
:)

Builds character, or so I hear.
The challenge is when?
Uh yeah... yeah I know... it's around here somewhere...
oh boy.
Yeah yeah we were um uh doing stuff all along....
Jack is learning the car!
He will be able to drive it next year!
Allright team... let's get the car in and torn down.
***Identifies the LONG list of issues and broken / failing parts after 3 back to back $2000 Challenge appearances.***
Ok - now on to the high-priority important stuff.....
Free wheels.
Jack is awsome, he takes on every task with enthusiasm!
Free slicks....
MOAR Challenge fun....!!!
Body Mods are in the future....
Probably still need to fix the worn out stuff too....
Spewing Power steering pump
Busted Windshield
Ear Splitting Alternator Case and Bearing
Leaking Slave Cylinder
Leaking Transmission
Loose / Failing Tensioner Idler Pulley
Leaking Header Gaskets
Missing Collector Hardware
Loose exhaust Clamp
Flush Brake Fluid
Change oil
Change Transmission Oil
Flush Radiator
Yeah, those wheels are cool.
I almost didn't save them.
I got them off of a car that was "for sale"... at least at first.
I went to see it our of curiosity and had to tell the seller it just really had close to no value.
Months later it turned into what would you charge me to come and get it?
So I did.
The 35 Chevy body went to a forum member.
After that I literally could not give it away.
Posted it for free to scrappers.... just got requests for "more pictures" lol.
Even Stampie was here... and turned down pulling any parts off of the carcass... including the wheels.
So it sat on the trailer.
I kept walking by it.. thinking "I sure wish those wheels were Chevy pattern..."
They were on a 9" so I had assumed they were ford.
One day I took a closer look, and saw they were on ford to chevy wheel adapters.
BINGO.
Perfect fit.
Got a lot done today... Jack helped with the tear down!
Replaced the alternator bearing and the idler.
I also seem to have somehow lost a bunch of pics?
Anyway imagine also lol...
A new power steering pump and new header gaskets.
And a revised cooling system which will require extensive plastic surgery.
Paging Dr Stafford, paging Dr Stafford....
Tomorrow will be install slave cylinder, flush brakes, install windshield, finish safety checks and do a big Smokey burnout in the driveway...
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
HA!
Now that's pressure... lol.
This car is coming back for it's 4th Challenge.
Each time we get a little more out of it.
So we are hopeful....
The heads on this engine are late 1989 D-port L98 "113" heads.
Note that the headman round port header gaskets did shroud the top of the exhaust port by about 3mm.
That's worth the time to gasket match!
I love the internet.
Here is WHY the 113 exhaust ports don't match the header gaskets.... the port was raised 0.100"
Now I wonder about the header itself.
Stopped by the Altar of affordable acceleration today, and left a 2" carb spacer offering.
Hopefully the gods of gasoline will find it to their liking...
And then I cut things.
Have to sacrifice a little slipping through the air for sucking air, because you know science and stuff.
I bet you are thinking I sound like that Stafford1500 guy right ?
Near the end of the build .... which ended at 3:30 AM day of the race... it got way to crazy to blog what we were up to.
I'm going to back fill in the next week or so. I apologize for not posting more. I feel that one of the great parts of this forum / and challenge combo is the real time build up. Ours just got out of control... and not in a particularly good way. If my team members had not been great life long friends we would have never made it to the race, much less perform as well as we did with a broken car.
Thanks you Steve, Scott, Jack, Casey, Rob, and Angie (Mrs a_florida_man).
Over the weekend, the true feelings of accomplishment and pride were in seeing you all jump in and save me from my own schedule.
It all led to this car's 3rd, 3rd place.
And we did that on a light power, trial drag run of 13.3.
The next run we lost the clutch halfway and coasted to a 13.5 @ 89.
I can still feel how good the 2nd run felt before it went away.
Like I read on Angry's post ... The Challenge isn't easy.
You'll need to log in to post.
