Anyone want to come over and clean parts all day?

I'll let you be on a race team LOL.

Working from left to right...

There's a thread in the tech tips section about zinc plating....   it sounds cheap, easy and awesome

A few more bits back on:

Rear sway bar, hub links, all brake hoses and hard-lines.

All fuel lines and fuel filter (from parts car, old ones were badly rusted), Master Cylinder.

Calipers rebuilt. Rear calipers were rebuilt with AC Delco kits, no problem. The front calipers have Dorman kits and I think that the main seal is too thick. AC Delco Kits on the way...

Do you need front caliper pin kits?  Think i have them

Thanks for the offer, but mine are in good shape, I just replaced the boots and cleaned and  lubed the pins.

Well, sure enough, the problem with the front caliper rebuilds was in the thickness of the seal.

The dorman kits were the correct part number for the application, just the wrong size seal in the box.

Dorman doesn't make anything (that I know of), they just re-box.

Sometimes that's ok, some times this is what you get.

Dorman seal vs AC Delco seal:

The Dorman is about %50 wider overall.

So, with the front left caliper rebuilt, I was able to finish a "corner".

If you have a cold beverage, and stand back and squint, it sort of looks like it COULD be a car again... by OCTOBER!

Damn dude, looks great-

Hats off for actually doing what all of us wish we had done way after it's too late to do it :)

We will see if I can keep the pace and make the schedule work.

There is a lot of racecar to build and test yet. But it is still fun...

I really like how the rules keep me from getting mired in perfection.

(Less money, less time wasting tasks. Just lots of labor being used to make the best of what's there.)

Simple car. Simple approach. Get it done.

Once you clean the aluminum bits do you put anything on them to slow the inevitable white aluminum powder of ugliness?

And fantastic job, you make me want to take things apart.

Thanks!

As for the aluminum bits, well clear coat would cost budget, and getting them to be nice enough to be worthy of clear coat would take more detailing effort (challenge schedule). So I decided to leave them au natural. I think I'll fog them and the hardware with a gun metal waterproofing spray oil and hope for the best. Maybe break free, etc..

60 seconds of internet research found this:

Well that was GRM style for sure...

Looks like WD-40 specialist Corrosion inhibitor might be a good choice.

Good news, bad news.

Good news, the day went well, and I decided to commit to making the car a roller again:

Bad news is that it took longer than I expected, AND it started to RAIN!

So as a result the bad news is that I did not really take anymore pics.

However I can prove it is a roller again and off the body dolly:

As I mentioned, the car is now a roller, so.... I rolled it out this evening and did a little more work, and caught up on pictures. All of these speak for them selves, just detail shots of the progress and of the payoff from all of the cleanning and scrubbing.

My wife hates it when I buy a new car. Not because of the car, but because I lose a minimum of two months of house time playing with the car. Balance is hard.
