I'm happy to see this thread revived. I love when your Eagle pops up on my instagram feed. yes Aways had a soft spot for them.

That sorted out the front bumper (for now), but I wanted something different on the roof basket. I fiddled around with several different grandiose Indies of bending up a flipdown rack, but I knew project creep was setting in.

Amazon Prime to the rescue.

$8.something per pair.  I would have to drill them out for the lights I wanted, but that would be less time and distraction than the overengineering that I was sure to do with a light cage.  I knew I had a pair of KC Hi-Lights hiding somewhere, but they had eluded me so far. A friend had another pair that he found in a storage unit he had won, and since I was starting to get antsy, I just took a trip to the nearby Harbor Frieght and bought a pair of their knockoffs dirty cheap. (I think $10 for the pair on sale, but don't quote me, as it has been months)

IG and FB are so easy to just pop up and toss a quick photo on, but really don't tell a story like the forums can. GRM Is the only forum I really engage in anymore, so I feel I should give something back. The wealth of information here is second to none, plus, I love the cast of characters.

So, I found the lights, brackets to mount the lights, and knew where I wanted to mount them. But I still needed covers.  KCs just won't look right without the yellow covers, and the newer plastic jobbies just wouldn't do. Well, I had an ongoing CL search setup up in addition to my FB, OfferUp, LetGo, and eBay forays, and I struck gold at the perfect moment.

Some guy was selling off his '80s stash of parts store add-ons, and had them brand new in the package.

Don't hold me to the price, but I'm pretty sure I paid $10 per package, and there are two padded covers per package. (It was either that or $20 for all, but let's say it was the higher price, as I don't want to search FB and IG for the truth) I didn't need all 4 packages, but what kind of hoarder would I be if I left half of them behind.  I'm sure I will find something to put the other 4 on in the next 20 years?

A little bit of messing around I did for a t-shirt or two.

I have a few, but my personal one is @eloelcooter, and I recently started another for all things old and Daily Driven- @VintageDailyDriver.

But I am fairly horrible at keeping them separate, so there is quite a bit of overlap .blush

Sidebar- This Kindle Fire tablet really was a great score for $38, and it is much easier to post here with it than with my phone, but the autocorrect drives me up the wall...

On the kindle you should have the opton to disable autocorrect. I think it's hidden in the keyboard settings. Swipe down the menu at the top of the screen and select Settings>keyboard settings to turn it off.

I’ll buy the other KC covers if you don’t want to hoard them.  I’m doing the same thing to my wrx.  Ordering a basket next time i get paid, and got 4 of the blazer offroad kc knockoffs.

If I ever get off of them, you're the first in line.   Problem is, I still have a Manx style dune buggy that hasnt been listed here yet to complete.  (And who knows how many other projects in my head- Rod Hall Ramcharger? Maybe.  A clean VW thing rolling chassis two states away??  I really shouldn't...)

I'm not sure if I mentioned in in this thread, but the basket was $99 at Cabela's, and it is the long version with the extension.  There are at least 4 different companies putting their name on the same product, with prices varying by at least $80 from seller to seller. Shop around if you haven't bought one yet, and aren't going high end.

Ordered one from amazon for $68.  No extension, but it’s for a sedan so that’s perfect.  Ordered at the same time i ordered a set of those clamp on light mounts and an LED light bar.  Going to put the bar on the roof and make a rally style light bar for the front bumper someday.  But the parkways and backroads around here are too dark for stock subaru headlights with all the deer flying all over the place.

But the roof basket still didn't give the Eagle enough of an '80s vibe; something was still missing.

Time to go through my hoarded extras...

Hmm, onsies.  Need to keep digging...

There we go!

Jackpot.

I had these for a couple decades. Almost forgot I had them.

First off, I love this thing and I’ve spent a lot of time around Eagle Wagons.

Second, keep the Jeep Wagon wheels. They pop with the brown.

Lastly, I hate you and your light collection. I’ve been looking for some 70’s era Marchals or Cibies for my Corvair and they are damn expensive. So freaking jealous of what’s in that milk crate.

You wouldn't believe how close they came to getting thrown away.  In the late 90s, my neighbor across the street passed away.  His wife saw the 4wd rigs I had over the years (Scrambler, CJ6, M715, Trailduster), and offered me two milk crates mostly full of brand new takeoffs he had collected over the years. I really didn't want them, as the were useless to me with the 4wds and MoPar musclecars I was building during that era.  But then she said she would just "throw them out", as no one one showed any interest in them at her garage sale. I hate to see anything thrown away, but especially since these seemed to be important to her husband, I had to "save" them in his memory.

I'm pretty messed up like that, but at least I feel like he is looking down at Chico, and smiling, somehow.

Oh, and you aren't that far from me. And I love that Corvair. I doubt I will use all of these, so let's figure out what pair of these will work out for you and a reasonable price.  I sold a few pairs on eBay, but they will serve a my neighbor's memory better on your car that sitting in my basement.

Back to the Eagle.  This car cane with a really cheesy Optima stereo, and while I would love to find a factory AM/FM/CB, I'm just not willing to spend $200+ on one that may or may not work. So back into the hoard I go.

Found a couple Pioneer stereos, and a Kenwood with a separate Kenwood amplifier.  The Kenwood will have to wait for now- Pioneer it is.

But first, I needed to do something about the dash trim. The area around the speedometer was cracked badly, and the "wood" trim was boken into several pieces, with aluminum rivets in the gaps in between holding the pieces in place. Thinking about it as I am writing this, I wonder if one of the previous owners tried to reattach the "wood" to the trim where it was falling off by drilling and using the rivets, which then cracked the woodgrain. Whatever the cause, it really looked horrible. (Which is why i never took a photo of it, as it upset me to even look at)

Off to the Junk Yard!

While all of the dashes I could find in the JY were cracked even worse than mine (due to the way that the instrument cluster attaches to the trim, making removal tricky even for those who know how they go together- I am going to figure out some way to mount the cluster that doesn't depend on screws going through the fragile dash trim), I did find half of one with the woodgrain intact. It took a little work, but I managed to get the "wood" off intact, remove the same from my trim, and combine the two good pieces to make something somewhat presentable. I also found an original knob and shaft for the headlight switch, and replaced that while I was at it.

Reinstalling it all will have to wait until I finish the stereo swap, and overthink several related issues related to the instrument cluster, stereo, and AW-4 controls. (I'm REALLY not impressed with the current setup, but don't want to leave the car in pieces very long)

I also found a radio delete cover in that very stripped two door, believe it or not. It cleaned up pretty well, but I'm still not sure what I am going to do with it. Oh well, into the stash it goes...

Here's part of the program where I mind-vomit a bit. I have many thoughts, questions, and ideas, and not all of them are good.

Right now, seats. The ones in Chico are dirty, stained, worn, and the driver's side is completely broken down to the point of making it uncomfortable.  Time to get some ideas.

Looking online, I saw that front seats from a Jeep Grand Cherokee were a fairly common swap. Hmmm, I just happen to be parting out a 5.9 Limited.

Seats are pretty nice, too.

However, they sell for a pretty penny, as does most everything from a 'Niner.  I could probably buy a pair of Beard seats for what that interior goes for.

Still looking, I see PT Cruiser seats used, but they are ugly, IMO. But then I remembered that the PT GT I'm using for an engine donor for the '88 Chrysler T&C wagon had leather heated seats.

And no one ever wants anything from a PT Cruiser. Let's pull one out, and check it out.

Let's load them up.

But what about the back seat?  No one has posted anything about swapping the rear seat. Well...

More comfort, but less plaid? Is that really how you want to live?

In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :

At 53 with two crushed discs?  Yeah, a little comfort would be nice. I've looked for over a year to find a decent matching driver's seat.  It pains me to have get rid of the plaid, but not as much as it pains me to try to drive the car home from a long day working in a ditch and then sitting in that seat. If I can't DD it anymore, it is pretty useless to me.

And I have some ideas about the plaid...
