edit: Is that a bird egg in front of what is left of the drivers seat?

Nope that's the knob for the seat slider. The seat certainly wasn't gonna slide so I got out the angle grinder for removal.

This weekend I had plans that were canceled at the last minute so I decided to go rallycross instead.

Friday I changed the oil on the Miata since it has been a couple years. I also wanted to install the 24mm swaybar that I had for it. I found one of the stock swaybar brackets in my parts stash and assumed I had both. After an hour of looking I couldn't find it so I went to the junkyard. The closest thing they had was a RX8 so I pulled both brackets to try. I installed the swaybar mounts that I bought since I had cut the stock ones off years ago.

The mounts have two sets of threaded holes, one with a closer spacing that matched the stock Miata bracket (on the inboard side) and one with a wider spacing that matched the RX8 brackets (outer). I figured the RX8 brackets would work so I started mounting it, unfortunately with both brackets on the outer set of holes the spacing was two wide and the bushings were fouling the curve on the bar. Compromised and used one Miata bracket on the inner side and one RX8 on the outer side to get enough clearance to fit. No pictures as I wasn't thinking about it while fighting the install.

This was my first time at Joe's Speedway, it has a lot of elevation change and the surface is very hard packed. I haven't driven the Miata since last fall and never on this site but the swaybar seemed to give much better turn in and I was having a great time.

Ended up the day first in class (out of three) ahead of a E36 compact. I was well ahead of the entire MF field but couldn't beat the times of the MR-S in PR.

It was fun matting the throttle at the bottom of the big hill and getting sideways halfway up when the rpm caught up.

It's been a while since I've worked on anything of substance. I bought a Volvo 142 well over a year ago. It did not have a complete engine and one of the previous owners tried to remove the bellhousing with a sledgehammer. I got a few engines and transmissions from a guy in Annapolis and haven't done anything with it since.

This weekend I swapped some tires onto a spare set of wheels to get something on there that actually held air. That motivated me to pull the transmission out of the car. Today I decided that since I have a little momentum going I should see about getting the transmission I am going to use bolted onto the engine. I pulled the bellhousing and cleaned everything up, the clutch still has plenty of life and everything else looks fine. Then got the transmission bolted on and I have a drivetrain ready to drop in.

Still a lot left to do but it is some movement in the right direction.

Went out after dinner with the goal of spending 30 minutes and swapping the output flanges on the transmissions. That didn't take long so I ended up an hour and a half later with the engine in the car.

The next bits will take longer as I get the carbs cleaned and figure out what other parts I need.

Must be planning on going sideways a lot with the s-cargo in that orientation.

Hopefully it gets to that point.
