Congrats on progress but didn't you tell me you want 16 or 17" wheels?
Yes, 16/17 not staggered is my preferred size for this truck. The eagles are 16x8.
However. Im an addict.....
Tonight: fixed the oil cooler leak with the dorman kit, used new 2.5 band clamps that fit perfectly, tightened up the exhaust hardware, and let it run up to operating temp leak and hiccup free.
Dad dropped the driveshaft back off today to be done again, this time hopefully correctly since i actually bothered to measure instead of assuming the internet was right. Supposedly be done tomorrow.
Ill mess with it more Sunday. Need a night off to work with chip burning, and sleep and see the family. Saturday is autocross.
Looking good Duster! Glad to see the headers and exhaust stuff worked out well for you. That passenger side is deceptive, right? Looks like so much more room than the drivers side without the steering shaft, master cylinder, ect. in the way, but I think it's the proximity of the frame rail that makes the passenger side such a PITA.
In reply to Furious_E (Forum Supporter) :
Pita is definitely accurate. I had to do some mild clearancing on the cab to get it through, and find the right angle for the drivetrain.
It was not nearly as nice as the drivers side that fell in.
But im really grateful you sold it to me!
Stampie: you'll be missed, but mr and mrs shawneecreek are coming. Jenn gets to meet more of the group!
Shiny part is 2000 wet, 3000 wet, quick hit with mag an aluminum polish.
Think im going the whole way to 7000 before polishing.
wheel one polished nice.
tires are too short, but these are the garbage ones.
The center caps don't fit. Ill need to find a proper set that I'm willing to pay for.
Today i got the driveshaft back. Fit this time. Amazing how measurements provided to the shop makes things fit. Probably should have done that the first time.
So, the truck moves under its own power. First and reverse only. The chip burner that i sold stampie a few years ago and borrowed back is DOA. he never used it, so it either expired from neglect or i sold it broke. Regardless, a new one is on order, and the company is going to warranty this one if i send it back. Which I will.
Anyway, it moves!!!!
However, the really big win today is dads truck. His 49 ford was bought six years ago, rusty and nowhere near running. He took it down to a bare frame and has slowly rebuilt it. Today. We got the rebuilt flathead v8 fired up. It was built three or four years ago, but never ran.
The stromburgs leak, the reds headers and smittys exhaust leak a bit, but it RAN!!!!
tomorrow we clean up a bit. And I'll work on rebuilding the broken seat tracks, installing the backup camera, and finding the courtesy light circuit short. You k ow. Other stuff that needs done while i wait for the chip burner.
Um....while waiting for the chip burner to talk to the trans heartplant, will there be a cat on this rascal or are you addressing that also with a new chip ? Hey, is there emission testing in your area?
There is a cat! High flow at that. Previously, the cat had apparently been gutted. Didn't know that until i pulled it apart.
Theres no emissions in my area, however I prefer to try to make stuff as clean as possible. So no egr delete or anything like that will be done. Just tweaking it for mpg and power, in addition to the new trans. Steep learning curve though....
Sorry, just to clarify: te headers and exhaust i just installed included a high flow cat. Which has replaced the gutted stuff in the truck previously.
My truck only has a single upstream. Its located in the y where both headpipes merge. Justin front of the cat.
Coming along nicely. How about some e-bay center caps for those wheels. I've used them on various vehicles, and they worked out ok.
Ive actually ordered one of these to try.
seems like they will have the depth, diameter, and style to meet my needs. And they are CHEAP on ebay. The correct caps for these are $75-125 each, and look vrry similar to the gm ones.
Heres to hoping it actually works!
Good progress. Still amazed how you manage to balance all the life stuff and get car stuff done so fast.

Im Frankly amazed myself quite often. Seems like theres more hours in the day than there should be at times.
Having the wife and daughter heavily involved in activities outside the house (scouts, school) definitely helps as well

I'm also impressed. You get done more than I do even.
Four miles, almost flawless. Didn't have something electrical right at first, took it apart to inspect, found nothing, put it back together the same way it was and worked fine.
Still needs more trans fluid.
But ITS ALIVE AND HEALTHY!!!
