Yes, as soon as I get caught up, pictures will follow. The short story on these cars is as follows: BMW corporate was not convinced that people would pay the cost to own a M3 in the states. Getting the motor legal in the states, was not going to happen.
So, they built a run of 150 cars in December of 1993, all in white, as a test. The motor was the stock 2.5, the seats and the interior are unique and it has some M 3 exterior things. The rims, a BBS set up introduced 7x17 rims, are very unique. All very tame, they all sold. The M3 was built, And the suits, took the credit.
My car is a survivor, built at the end of the run. With 200,000 plus miles and a replacement motor it is an old used BMW. That has been maintained, in the past and put into storage. Until this week. The car started right up, no drama. The gas stinks, that is getting pumped out. New fuel filter, oil and filter are next. Brake fluid, differential and transmission are next.
Driving on, then off the trailer were not an issue. The shocks have needed to be changed for years. Bilesteins do go bad, these will be replaced. The car is a street car, Sports will do. My SM Miata has a race car suspension, not going to happen on the BMW. I am going to change the front sway bar, more on that later.
But the greatest challenge with this car, keeping it smog compliant. Once again, I have a fresh cat to get installed. The injectors have been rebuilt. The coils are fresh, as are the plugs. These cars are a vacuum leak, all ways? The smog test that needs to be done, will be the test!
I have had a square set of M3 front rims with new 235/45 17 Dunlops going on the car. The BBS rims, get put away. Those, are worth something!
