I have four days until my next mow, and I need to replace the PTO clutch on the Supermower.

In theory, this could be easy. It’s held onto the end of the crank by a single bolt, and the replacement instructions tell me to lube the shaft first. But this shaft has been in the hole for over 20 years, and I have no idea if the guys at the factory were lubing their shafts back then or not.
It might slide off like a dream, but it could turn into a Bat-E36 M3-crazy nightmare.
I’m goin’ in...
I was hesitant to open this thread.
I was concerned it might have something to do with getting overly excited while reading Larry Flynt's magazine.
You may have to pound it but I think she'll take it.
Don't forget to wear protection.
Things were great until we hit about 20 years old. Then we could no longer engage when things got hot. I tried changing the thing that turns it on, but it was still hit or miss.

I bought a new clutch about two years ago, but have avoided putting it in until this point.
I used to be able to just get things going and then I simply refused to stop until I was done. Last week, I just couldn’t do it anymore.
POV: On my back.. not my favorite position

That picture give me a mental image of Woody saying, "damnit... I shouldn't have sold Ian that Max Jack..."
Let’s get that belt off...

Oh yeah, that’s better...

Nice machine. My Huster Fastrak 54" deck with Honda 20hp V-Twin only dates back to 2003. Still going stong!
I had to replace the bottom main seal on the Honda engine. The clutch dropped off with a simple mallet tap.
I just started, and I already got E36 M3 in my eye.

Okay, now grab the pry bar!
Can't beat this blow by blow action!
Either your shaft is too short to properly fill the hole, or it looks like your moves are the right moves.

A+. Best thread this year.
A few good smacks, and before I knew it, it was all in my hands.

Behold: My Tiny Shaft!

Looks dirty. Better wash it before insertion
In reply to bgkast (Forum Supporter) :
Oh, believe me, I can polish a shaft.

I can go a little more...
