But since I'm pretty sure it did, how would you get a car with a locked up rear axle onto a car hauler?

A winch and the rear tires on cafeteria trays. smiley

That's an excellent idea.   It does pull forward and backwards a couple feet.  (I'm assuming the seller shot the pinion shaft halfway out the carrier)

Now, how do I find cafeteria trays by tomorrow?  (Legally)

I have a line on the dollies- seller's friend has a set.   Just trying to cover all bases here.

Other than current prices... 2x10s at near full-length help getting up on the trailer and slide easily. Loaded several 0-3 wheeled junkers that way.

Gran Fury ?

Seems like all the 5th Avenues had vinyl tops and the Gran Furys were slick tops.

You're lucky. If it was a Dodge,  I'd have to call you a Dip-E36 M3.

I was shocked at how clean it was underneath.

It was listed on a FB group as having 97K miles on it, and some "expert" called him out as trying to rip people off.

Basically, the "expert" said the odometer must have rolled over "several" times since the rear end broke, and the leather covering on the steering wheel was damaged...

On a 32 year old car...

So, curious about what horrible sin this guy had committed, I went looking for the listing.

And realized how much work the seller had put into it.  Headers, true dual exhaust (this is a bit of a pain on F, M, and J bodies, and requires a minor relocation of the fuel tank), H4 headlights with LED lamps in the low beams, not to mention a whole host of maintenance and repairs right after he bought it 2 years ago.   Car was on the NW side near O'Hare airport, and since I was planning on going to the flea market at the Allstate Arena, and then visiting with my daughter in Niles, checking this out slotted in perfectly with the rest of my day.

Spent a while poring over it, and it was everything the seller claimed.   Was it 97,000 actual miles?   I dunno, but it was pretty darn clean for the Rust Belt.   And as I told the seller, it wasn't like he was calling it a 50,ooo, or even a 70,ooo mile car.   For a three decade old vehicle, I don't care if it is a hundred or three hundred thousand mile car.  The condition is everything to me.   And this one was pretty nice.   Not perfect, but he wasn't asking three grand, either.

So here I stand.     Not sure what my plans are, but I have an idea.

318.   It's an '89, last year for the M-Body, and after the demise of the Slant Six.

You're really reaching for things to complain about when you start going off about the odometer on a $1000 car. What kind of lame scam would that be?

Exactly.  And if you saw the listing, you would see how the seller gave full disclosure about the car.  Good and bad.  It's a thousand dollar car.    And hardly scrap metal.   But the more brand/model specific, and more obscure, the more whacky the guys who obsess over them get.

My last Gran Fury had a rear ended problem; it would jump sideways going around corners and click all the time. I think I drove it all the way from McHenry to Bradley doing that. Tense drive but it was my only car. Light blue one in this pic

There were still plenty of parts in junkyards at that point.
