Driver's C-pillar capped. It's sort of poetic that I cut a piece out of the C-pillar to cap the C-pillar.
I started running into what I thought was a lot of contamination towards the end. Nope, well, maybe. But I'm also out of gas. I really hope the welding shop is open tomorrow.
Our napa does welding gas.
Also, Patrick has an exhaust for you.

Yes sir! Thanks for sending it up.
Well, the welding shop was open and I did get a refill but all of my free time this past weekend was spent chasing a misfire on the M3. I never caught it.
Yesterday I was back at it with Guac.
All of the welds on the caps are mostly cleaned up, there are a few more spots I want to make nicer. I also got the passenger door gutted. The local service department let me bring the rear hatch to break the glass out into their bin which allowed me to...
FYI, the dash frame that you've been making sparks around is magnesium...
Nice progress! At this rate Guacamole will be ready to win the 2023 Challenge.

Provided he doesn't try to weld to it, not really an issue. The heat held in those sparks isn't gonna be enough to start the magnesium of the dash to burning.
If it were a pile of magnesium dust, might be an issue.

Stupid friend asked me to be in his stupid wedding that weekend. How dare he, right?
The M3 misfire was a bad spark plug. As it turned out, I put a new one with a cracked porcelain (I totally dropped one of the boxes and didn't check) into the same hole. What are the odds? 100%, it happened.
Yesterday was yard work. Today was sweeping the garage, spinning the BMW around to do the driver-side disc conversion, chopping up the remaining Guac roof for something exciting (not showing that just yet) and one more thing.
The exhaust Duster sent up is super nice but would mean I can't run the big diffuser I intend to make and I'd have to fab a center section. I'm going simple. Looking at the smushed center section of the Borla exhaust, I realized I could make a pretty cool turn down.
It'll never be seen but we'll all know it's under there and it looks cool. Bets whether it shoots flames?
No windshield definitely skews the sensation of speed but Guac scoots (Responsibly. Professional driver, closed course).
Guac looks good on slicks.
I spent some time with Guac today, even though my focus should be on Sven, because it's going to get a bit of a shake down tomorrow. I've had two different autocross events on the calendar for Guac that I've had to miss so I'm just taking it to a big lot tomorrow for some testing. I really don't like not using my cars.
Some loose wiring harnesses tied up, speedo professionally mounted, racing harness installed, ready to rock (and hopefully not roll).
I also did a very little bit of troubleshooting on the tach (which doesn't function) but go nowhere.
Hehe.
Surprisingly, the front tires actually generated some heat. Rear tires were ice cold. That back end is, eager, to come around. Both front shocks are totally blown out. Held temp.
Successful little test.

That looks like fun and you're 10 months ahead of most of us that'll drive it for the first time week of Challenge.
Guac has been dormant since the test. Too many other car things going on!
Just making a note here that I sold the wheels that came with the car for $125 this afternoon.

Are you still interested in that fiberglass top? I'm making a trip to the junkyard today for the first time in months. I can try to grab it assuming it is still there.
Challenge builds out of semi-wrecked cars are awesome!!!
ETA- are you gonna put a low windscreen on it?
In reply to Nukem :
Sorry, didn't look at GRM all weekend but yeah, if it's there I'll take it!
In reply to Recon1342:
Definitely. I think Patrick said he's got a piece of polycarbonate that's big enough.
I don't know how I missed this thread. I almost did this for the 2023 challenge. I had a last minute mini convertible lined up within budget (due to a broken top) but it turned out to have a warped head from being overheated. Good luck with the build. Maybe we can make a speedster class at the challenge next year.

Unfortunately I think that hardtop mini has gone up to the big junkyard in the sky.
In reply to Nukem :
Bummer! Thanks for looking.
In reply to AxeHealey :
i do, and it's got your name on it
In reply to Patrick :
What a man, what a man, what a man, what a mighty good maaaaaan.
Productive lunch break.
I'm using Guac as a test bed for a number of ideas I have for Sven. This first one seems like it'll work out awesome.

I may have just caught up though
In reply to AxeHealey :
I also have some black sheets of thicker than necessary polycarbonate at the farm if you are on the west end of Michigan any time soon.

Sure he isn't but I'm going to visit Warren on the 18th of November and I need a couple for the splitter on his Corolla if you feel like meeting me there.
