I promised that I would not consider another vehicle until Poorvette, a 1991 C4 Corvette, was completed.

I was wrong. So very wrong.

You see, Poorvette was being built to be a commuter. A simple 5.3, no major modifications, automatic transmission, long wear tires. The perfect Grand Touring economy car on a tight budget.

Then Johnny C5 arrived. After sitting in a barn for 4 years we purchased this 2000 C5 Corvette in non running condition. From years of dust to rusted rotors all the way down to no battery it was perfect for $2100.00.

Yes that was typed correctly. Two thousand one hundred American dollars.

So the challenge begins: can the guy who never finishes a project get this car running, driving, polished and presentable before the 2024 Grassrootsmotorsports.com $2000 Challenge?

Prove how amazing and capable Johnny is at the Challenge, profit.  Move on to the next one.  Bonus points for driving it there.

In reply to Recon1342 :

Keep the interior, sell polished wheels for my $200 C5 spokes with R888Rs, pray the 260,000 mile transmission and probably clutch survive!

This is what a Michigan winter driven C5 corvette looks like.

A question was asked directly, and I can see why it was brought up.

When I mentioned that I would be bringing Johnny C5 to the Challenge, it would not be as a $2000 Challenge Under Budget eligible vehicle. If if makes the trip it would be there as an above $2000 budget car.

Johnny is one step closer!

Even with the new dual post AGM battery there were obvious issues somewhere. Inconsistent ignition switch operation, most of the car did not light up or work. No fuel pump action. Left headlamp did not lift.

The plan is to add 8ga cables linked from ground lug to ground lug to resolve Inconsistent ground connections. I will need to do it in two stages, engine bay then rear of body. Reason for separate runs is for the upgraded stereo components that are being installed.

Today I kicked off the engine bay. Cutting and terminating 8ga CCA cable from battery to dash ground has resulted in not only the headlights operating properly but the engine actually cranking over (it never would before).

I have ordered a new GM ignition switch, with 260,000 miles on it and the ignition switch being a very weak link in the system it makes sense.
