Locost 7, which engine?

What were you going to do for a transmission?  I'm not aware of any VW RWD transmissions....  I've got a nicely built 1.8L 16V in an '87 GTI.  I'll get peanuts when I sell that car to make room for a Lotus 7 so if I could easily use that engine that would lessen the pain of parting with that car....

I think if we're using engines behind the driver, there is no mystery to RWD VW transmissions :) But a Locost puts the engine up front.

Then I shall counter that if you are capitalizing Locost, you are specifically referring to a car that is fundamentally like the design used in Ron Champion's book, which he called a Locost. That is front engine and is basically an inexpensive Lotus 7 replica using a copy of the Westfield chassis.

But if you use the lower case, you are making it generic and can cast a wider net. We were using capital-L Locost until your last post and clmoore3rd specifically called out a Lotus 7 which is always front engine ;)

More helpfully, I've seen a 1.8 VW engine in a Series Land Rover, which is RWD until you lock the transfer case. It's just a matter of an adapter for your trans. In that case, it was made at home. Correct, when I said "Lotus 7" I meant in the traditional sense, to include Locost 7 or Birkin 7.  (Not interested in building a frame by myself, too bad CMC is out of business.  Birkin seems to be truest alternative.)

That Jegs Quick Time adapter is quite pricey and defeats the purpose of trying to re-use my existing engine.

That RWD Motorsport unit is more what I had in mind, thanks! :)  Hmmm....
