After a year of ownership, a few miles, and some track days, I decided to start modding my Miata. Since I tend to lose motivation easily, I thought writing and sharing my saga might help keep me on track.
About Me: I'm no professional car driver or mechanic—in fact, I work in finance. Cars are my hobby and a way to enjoy life. I've had many other project cars and stories, and I'm always looking for something new (bad habit that I believe everyone here shares)
The Car: After many E36 M3boxes—sorry, I mean classic cars—I decided to go for something easy to drive, fun, and great on the racetrack. Everyone knows the answer is always a Miata. I chose an ND2 for its nice engine, better transmission, and lightweight design, which doesn’t hurt either. Since I still plan to use the car on the street during weekends and drive to the tracks, other track-ready options weren’t viable.
The Plan: I want to compete in time trials held by FARA and Global Time Attack (GTA). Initially, I'll aim for the Street Group to build my skills. I also plan to attend some HPDEs at Sebring and Homestead. Maybe I'll add COTA, Barber, and Atlanta Motorsports Park to the list next year, but I will probably need to get a truck to haul the Miata
Next time I will talk a out the mods and regulations for street class.
