Recently acquired an unfinished project that has a custom-made bell housing and pilot bearing to mate a 1.8 Mazda Miaita engine to the Europa.
This engine came with a manifold adapting dual 40DCOE Weber side drafts and a distributor running off of the back of the exhaust cam.
I have reassembled the car as it had all the trim removed for the amateur repaint 20 years ago.
The odo lists 42K miles and the car has zero corrosion anywhere.
The seat upholstery and dashboard are in poor condition, but the remaining interior components are quite good.
Any and all suggestions on the design of the motor mounts will be appreciated.
I have a vertical end mill, welding & metal cutting equipment along with all the other basic tools so this should be a fun project.
The goal is to use it extensively with my wife on the mountain roads in Upstate SC and NC.
I sold a '58 Berkeley with a turbo fuel injected 750 Kawasaki to finance this Europa project (and extend my life....).
Other scruffy "classic" drivers in our collection are a '67 S1 E-Type FHC, '68 MGB "FrankenB", '71 Eldo convertible "Moby", '90 XJ-S V 12 Convert, '90 Alfa Romeo Spider and my high school '60 MGA we are converting to electric.
We use 2 SLK's as daily drivers along with a Benz longback for long trips.

Yes, Photos would be very welcome of both the Europiata and the rest of your quiver.

The Berkeley with the Kawi Turbo sounds ... exciting.

Welcome!

There are a bunch of aftermarket options for Miata motor mounts that might give you some design inspiration. The factory mounts are behind the CG of the engine so it will be trying to go nose down. It relies on the transmission for support in the Miata. There are a number of good mounting bosses on the sides of the block.

In reply to rdcyclist :

The Berkeley was lethal. I spent 25 years trying to sort that one out. Do not miss it one bit as it completely financed this project!

I just hope it doesn't kill the guy I sold it to.

In reply to Keith Tanner :

I have drilled to fit 1/8" plates already bolted to the engine; will start cutting cardboard patterns when it is up on the lift. May do something quick & dirty so it will move under it's own power. I hate pushing dead cars........

I see you mention upstate SC & NC roads, where are you located?  I am in Greer, SC, we likely frequent some of the same roads!

Also, I spy an OSU licence plate frame, are you a native ohioan as well?

You'll need to log in to post.
