Just wonderful - I want to see the results of some track days and how many big bad supercars you can outlap.

Made the mistake of venturing into a drag-racing forum and asking how to shift a dog box tranny... don't know what I was thinking.
"You're over-thinking this - rev that bitch to 10,000 and effing slam it into gear, don't drive like a girl."
Guess that I shouldn't have expected any other response. Forcing the engines to drop from 10,000 to 6500 rpm in 0.01 seconds can't be a good thing, no wonder they destroy drivetrains. Am I the only guy on earth who cares about engine mechanicals enough to not try and break it?
So I got down to a 3.6 second 0-60 time but my buddy pointed out that if I really have 430 hp, anything short of 2.5 seconds says otherwise...
I remember you said the 1st gear on this is pretty tall, that could be one problem. How bad is the wheelspin? Don't forget all the supercars in the 3sec ballpark are running 18" wide stickies.
0-60 doesn't say that much anyways.I always see there is a few seconds difference between different reviews of new cars. Then another change when a real person takes the car to the drags.
Do a couple 1/4 mile runs and see what she runs.

Don't get me wrong, a fast 0-60 time isn't the primary goal of the car; it's more surprise and curiosity about what's going on. First is good to about 45 mph and second is good to 80, so 0-60 sucks whether I use first gear or not. And that's on top of my wimpy mad-shifting skillz.
A friend who worked on the Nissan GTP car said that no matter how fast a turbo car is, they don't tend to do real well from a dead stop.

Agreed, unfortunately the closest track is 150 miles away. I'll try it on a deserted road someday but who knows when I'll run across one straight and with no cars in sight. Not exactly legal, but maybe not so bad if no one's around. Regardless, I'm not a fan of running it that fast on public streets...
Thats awesome! And way cheaper to build and maintain than all the "exotics" it lays waste to. Never mind the fuel economy (what 30s if not more).
A buddy put together a quick video of Midlana, using GoPro footage and stills (one of which will become the cover photo.) It really flatters the car.
In other news, I signed up for a trackday event(!), and the book has started its way through the editing process.
The draft copies of the book have arrived(!), so it's one more time through before "going live", probably before December.
In other news, Midlana will be run at California Speedway, a 200 mph NASCAR track, though they're running the infield to add some more turns. I'm told that that top speed there for trackday events is crazy fast; my brother's Super Stalker hit 150 mph+, so it's already intimidated. I just keep telling myself that it's all up to me how fast I choose to go.

Love it!
Hey Kurt,
The car looks good and I am looking forward to buying a copy of the book. I really enjoyed reading the Kimini book.
I was wondering why you decided not to install the fenders for the car. I saw on your build pictures that you test fit them, and I thought it looked really good with them on. Just curious.
Mark
From a performance standpoint, fenders can cut down drag a lot. The closer to aircraft wheel pants you get the more drag you'll cut, but covering the top and front of the tire is most important.
All you guys are doing is confirming that no one reads my website... it'll be available on or before December first.

It's true, I'm afraid; I only ever check stuff I'm subscribed to and get notified by, for the most part; there are just too many other places to remember to go back to. That's why I asked to be added to the list of folks to be notified when it was time to order
If you add an RSS feed or similar so that people don't have to remember to check in, I would bet that it'll make a significant difference in the number of folks who remember to order a book...
You'll need to log in to post.
