Stole from pimpm3’s thread.  Since my Challenge car arrived with no powertrain, I’m going to use this as my starting weight.  Thanks pimp!

941 Front / 1694 Rear

35.7% Front

iirc my previous V8Vair was 43% front so that’s about where I expect this one to come in.

and here is a chart of OE Corvair component weights i put together when i was prepping my first Challenge car, way back in late 2001, for the $2002 event.  Stock front seats weight 46 lbs each.   Fold-down rear bench weighs 73 lbs.   Complete doors weigh 71 lbs each with glass / tracks / regulators / interior panels.  etc.

My buddy Steve has the welder, my buddy Brian has the CNC, my buddy Tony has the analog machines, etc.  to the rest of the field i say: "you worry about you."  The C4 should be gone in 2 weeks, and sparks will start to fly shortly thereafter.

So he's going to get his buddies to build it while he bench races.

I am slowly crawling out of the dark ages, and am now living somewhat in the late 20th century with my newly-acquired ability to tune my OBD1 LT1.  So far I have only downloaded the OE .bin file with eehack and poked around a little bit with TunerProRT.  I think this will be an interesting way to make my bench faster.

If you're feeling bold I'm considering upgrading my welder soon. . . The JEGs TIG box could be yours for a low, low, yet to be determined price.

Got sidetracked a little this evening with a laptop battery issue, but got that squared away and spent a little quality time in the garage.  Removed AC condenser, drained radiator, de-gas, and overflow reservoir, removed coolant hoses, removed MAF sensor and intake boots.  Kinda small steps I know, but progress nonetheless.

Tomorrow evening I’m trading labor for square tubing, so won’t be in the garage again until Friday night.

Made that E36 M3 happen on my way home from work today:

Those will be helpful for tuning on the street, and they don’t hit the Challenge budget because open headers at Challenge.

I got home in time to put in about an hour in the garage.  Here’s what I’ve done the last couple days:

And here’s the current status:

Something i’m currently unsure of:  does the engine and trans come out the top?

I discovered that the radiator has a 2015 date sticker (and the all-important “Hecho en China” statement):

And the steering rack has a “Remanufactured 11/2017” sticker:

I’ve recouped enough, and I’ve let enough time slip away already, that I’m calling it quits on further parts sales.  I’m giving the AC parts to the guy who bought the hood, I’m keeping a few things for trade fodder, and everything else I don’t use is getting scrapped.

Unless someone here wants an uncut C4 Convertible Chassis with a clean title...

Yes, engine comes out the top. Though I separated mine from the trans.

Can you deliver the chassis to the Challenge?

I want to know about the drawing of the double a-arm suspension peaking out of your notebook.

Holy !@#@ what a score. I've been casually looking for a set of those for a while for my C6, and even the well used ones are $500+. I'd have paid twice that amount for those!

In reply to Stampie :

I'm not gonna have it that long.  I live in a sub and my driveway is pretty short so i have no place to keep it.  Once i get the powertrain and the suspension out, it's gotta go within a couple days.

That's what I was thinking, but this guy said he based his price on "just a little lower than what i've seen on corvette forums, so they'd move quick."  FWIW, there's another set on Detroit CL asking $700.

In reply to TVR Scott :

that's the OE C4 front suspension, nothing special about it.  i think it was RaceTruckRon who sent it to me.  Quick scan through my emails didn't find it, maybe i've got it on my laptop at home.

would be nice if there were some vertical dimensions like distance from ground to LCA inner pickup point on chassis.  i guess i'll dig through the FSM and see what i find.

FWIW I know there were ongoing changes in C4 suspension geometry, but neither my 85 nor Jim’s 88 had nearly enough static negative camber for autox.

Even though you weren't designing your own super secret suspension, the drawing is still pretty cool.

You could probably do a fair estimation of ride height by scaling the drawing and adding in tires of the correct size.  Would get you within a half inch or so, probably.

Dads 88 vette had  aluminum spacers on the upper control arm studs.  We took them out for more negative camber.
