Why does no one around here like their fingers lately?

No lie, I'm in the midst of battle thinking "motherberkeleyer I just got this hand fixed!"
I bled on her white fur, definitely showed her who's the alpha.
Past experience. Feet work better for initial intercept with dogs. It may seem cruel but iff two dogs are fighting a boot in the face of the aggressor will normally make it let go and be distracted long enough to grab it more safely. Whos dogs were involved, who was the agressor?

I can vouch for this. One of my college roommates was a farm boy and he broke up a dog on dog fight once (they were both our dogs and both were adopted, and generally they were friendly to each other, but everyone can have a bad day). As soon as they started, he ran in and just kicked as hard as he could a couple times. They stopped fighting.
He explained later that it doesn't really matter which dog you end up kicking, or where you end up kicking them, but an outside stimulus usually is enough to get both dog's attention. And don't try to break anything up unless you're prepared to fight with the dog(s) yourself.
my dogs. "OD", the dog we've had for 8 years (45-ish lbs and 10 years old) was sitting in front of the chair mama sits in when she throws the ball for the dog we've had for under a year (65-ish lbs and about 6 years old). my daughter was in that chair petting OD. i was in a chair about 10 feet away, scratching the "new" dog. ND walked over, they sniffed faces, and ND went for OD's throat. OD shrieked and tried to get away but ND had her pinned. i jumped onto ND's back, got left arm around her neck and got right hand into her mouth to pull up. that was dumb. she let go of OD and briefly clamped on my right hand, then let go. i held her down for a bit while mama got OD clear of the area. OD took no damage other than losing a tuft of fur. ND chilled pretty quick, i can't say for sure if she even tried to get free of me after she let go of my hand. i think i was shouting at ND the whole time. i honestly have no idea how long the whole situation lasted but i'd be surprised if it was more than 20 seconds.

i was "ready" but clearly not "prepared".
Agreed on the swift kick method. Grew up in a neighborhood where most of my friends had pairs of large dogs.
And now back to MonZora stuff:
Kinda forgot I still have the C5 hatch floor, so using it as a wind deflector for painting small parts.

There’s just something right about a 60’s car with an engine painted the factory color... even if it’s not the factory engine. Good on ya!.
I’m stoked every time I catch updates on this thread, keep it up!

Off topic a bit but when I bought my ford hot rod, the guy built it with a SBC, like most do. When I had the valve covers and some brackets off, I painted them ford blue. Actually pissed a few hard core "chevy or your stupid" guys off! "You cant put a ford color on a SBC, that's sacrilege!"... Um... It's in a FORD?
Anyway, A. C. Looking good. Are you going to go Hugger Orange on the heads too, or braggin' rights AL? Gonna look great in that. Hope the hand heals good. I just smashed up both hands - nothing broken or bleeding but bruised and a little swollen. Two days later I sanded a bit off one finger with a flapper wheel and no gloves. Then today, tried to take a fingernail off. I gotta stop this habit!!!

I'd never heard of this Chuby orange or Fraud blue thing until I moved here in 94. When I put a 351 in my SN95 in 1996 I painted the engine red, as that was the body color. People got surprisingly pissed off about it. Really? WTF?
In reply to 03Panther :
those mitts gotta last you a lifetime, brother. better take care of them!
re engine appearance: the overall theme for this build is "GM back room proof-of-concept mule build, not approved by management." clearly there are a few bits that don't quite fit that *yet*, but the engine is going to be dressed like a mid-60's fuelie 327, at least in theory.
That's the concept. Execution will vary slightly as dictated by the hardware.
unrelated to spring discussion, since oil consumption wasn't an issue on the drive home from FL, i rolled the dice and reused the valve stem seals. ah, budget.
also unrelated to spring discussion, i'm looking forward to stabbing the new cam in and installing the roller rockers. it's gonna look cool and should run pretty good when it gets to that point. i think the cam kit was $300 well spent.
had my buddy Jay make that $200 offer to make my previous $200 offer seem legit. Then my buddy Jay went rogue and accepted the $300 counter instead of trying for $250. Dammit man, I'm on a budget here!
Guess if I'd wore him down, there might have been room in the budget for new valve stem seals. But I like to think the extra $50 bought goodwill that kept us from bodily harm while in that fine Detroit neighborhood.
If you find room for the ~$20 seals, I'll bring over the spark plug air fitting adapter tool. But oil smoke at startup kinda goes with the barn find theme, so those 200k seals should be perfect actually.

looking at my evaluation sheet for transactions taking place East of Telegraph and South of 8 Mile:
Raped? No
Murdered? No
Robbed? No
Car-jacked? No
Mauled by wild dogs? No
So i guess I'm OK with $300

I guess being mauled by wild dogs is reserved for West of I275 then
In reply to Adrian_Thompson (Forum Supporter) :
she's not wild, she's a big baby with some misguided energy. damn, i sound like a battered wife.

protection *tax*, because tax is budget-exempt. i like the way you think!

Just quoted the most recent...
If you use your foot to push a back leg, or hand to grab a back leg, the dog will always turn around and refocus their energy. Works great. Grab a back leg and then lay on the dog. If you are the alpha (you should be!) They will lay down quietly and not squirm under you.
No bites, no barks, works every time.
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
I read about the back leg technique after bandaging my hand. Hope I never have to use it, but good to know.
Last night, I spent my garage time reading the shop manual. Picked up a couple of assembly tips and got torque specs for all the fasteners. Tonight, I spent most of my garage time cleaning engine parts, but I did get to do a little assembly work as well.
Bolts for cam end plate and timing gear got blue Loctite. All moving parts got assembly lube. Pushrods and rockers installed and adjusted.
Thursday night is family board game night. Will get at it again on Friday.
Installed pushrods and rockers last night. Reused OE lifters. 12 of them lashed normally but seemed weak. 4 showed zero plunger movement, ie turning nut began opening valve. Engine was quiet and ran great a year ago. I left those 4 at zero lash, will see what it does at startup. Feedback from those fluent in roller-cam SBC?
