Well, it will be a while before this build is finished, but i figured i would go ahead and start my build thread. I will be starting off with a 1999 Mx5 :

So, I have spent more time finding obsolete and hard to find parts than anything else right now... So, just to bring everyone up to speed on what i have went through to get all these parts : Engine : JE48 DOHC 3.0 V6 from a 92 Mazda 929, the engine has 88k on it and i paid 159.00 for it but had to par 350.00 to ship it : ( I have all parts to it, just stripping it down to replace gaskets)

The engine was not that hard to find, but these 2 items were :

It took me 3 months to find a flywheel for the JE, I finally found one in Salmon Arm BC Canada, paid 75$ plud 40$ shipping.
The other part that was hard to find was the Bell Housing for the Mazda R Box . I got this by chance off of ebay from a guy that was selling a Genuine 929 R Box... I paid 150 just for the bell housing... knowing what i know now, i should have just paid the 250 for the entire trans. At least i would have had the correct input shaft haha :( :

I all ready had the R box from a B2600 so i had plans to use it, but that is up in the air. I found that the 929 used the exact Type of R box that the early B2600 did.......BUT...... The transmission doesnt fit due input shaft length differences. The G6 R model trans has a long input shaft, the JE takes the short shaft like the Early Rx7's Turbo II did. The 929 and B2600 also shared the same tail housing unlike the Rx7. I am un-sure which i will need as of yet. But i know i will need a Turbo II box for parts.

I love it!
The Miata has really turned into a racer's Swiss army knife!
There is allot of mis-information on this part including from a reputable company like ACT. The Clutch, lots of sites list the clutch kit for the JE to be the same as the Turbo Rx7, MX6 Turbo, Probe GT Turbo..... And in fact they are not...... The JE shares the same clutch and Pressure Plate as the B2600. All other cars listed above use a 9-1/2 inch clutch and smaller pressure plate. The B2600 and JE from a 929 and a MPV use the same clutch which is 9-7/8 inch in size. The input shaft spline count is the same and thats about it. I found this out when i finally got the flywheel and tried to bolt it up.
But, to those that are interested in doing this, there are some options for getting hard to find parts. I will list the OEM Part numbers that was given to me after the fact from a friend in Australia for the parts i had a Hell of a time finding :
Flywheel : Flywheel part no. JE0111500
Ring gear part no. JF0111502A
Pilot bearing part no. F80111303
Flywheel bolt part no. JF0111511
Bell Housing : JF0116210D
These are theoretically still available as a spare part from www.amayama.com
More to come soon............
Welcome to the jungle, man.
Well I got the flywheel back from the machine shop today. Looks pretty good I think.

Whoever cleaned that trans definitely has MORE than enough patience to, for the love of god, polish your headlight lenses.
I think that same person should get rid of the style bar, too.
Hey! I like my roll bar/style bar thank ya very much! That's nit a cheap ebay bar.... the bars are tig weldes to 1/2 stainless plate from one side to the other. It actually works! Lol and yes I need to clean the head lights. The transmission was easy though. The pressure washer at work has a cleaner that runs through it and gets to 200 degrees. Takes almost anything off. Then with the help of new brite aluminium cleaner and a can of bumper chrome paint. Turns out nice.
Howdy Sir! This is gonna be a pretty one off job like the MX-3. Welcome to the board!!!
Yep.... As far as I know.....no one has done or tried it only asked questions. I'm commited now so here we go! :)
That 929 DOHC V6 seems like one of the most under appreciated engines around. I don't know how they are for HP & torque, but they sound fantastic. Cool project!
On the stock ecu with no modifications is 200hp/205tq ish.... which I will be running rhe factory ecu for a while.
It looks like the engine was taken care of for the short time it was in the 929.
Well I finally got everything i need for the clutch setup. I wanted i really good clutch.... But i picked up this new stock replacement for 40$. So i could not pass it up and its made by the folks who make ZOOM clutches.

Just need to run around it with that pressure washer!
