It's ok, I've got another glass of scotch and another cigar. I did emergency maintenance tonight after work and I'm pooped.

Sometimes I like to walk outside and just look at my project. I'll talk to her and even rub a fender. It kind of centers me and makes me realize the goal I'm working towards. Because it'd be a little creepy for me to walk across the country and rub your Jalpa's fender I think I'll just bring some pictures forward so that we can all sit at home and just think about what the Jalpa is about to become.

Alright everyone,

So last night I dropped off the last of what we need for the o-ring return tubes (which fit), spark plugs, lifting straps and a few other things.

He got all of the heads machined to be within 1cc of each other or so and got things good to go. Sounds like dyno day is very likely going to be thursday. We were hoping wednesday, but he still has to rig it up on the dyno, fit things, move things around, etc. Either way, we are out of the woods on the detrimental stuff.

I told him about this thread and he has also looked it up and found it. I don't think he has a registered account here, but by all means, feel free to pass along comments to him. He's as excited about this as I am!

I'm currently in anxiety mode. Have got all my stuff wired up for dyno day, i got my final AFR and VE map generated last night, made my settings in megasquirt. I'm ready for it. So it's up to him at this point. Everything looked amazing last night when I dropped by.

Heads look great, block is amazing, relief cuts are fantastic, everything is working out just like we wanted it and needed it. Things are groovy.

I spent the better portion of yesterday hunting for o-rings. I had viton o-rings sent from amazon with 1 day shipping. They were "in stock" and then monday after i inquired about them not being here, they said, "Oh yeah, we don't have those and they'll be there next month when we get them in."

So in a pure panic I went around calling every place I could. One place claimed to have some, and actually didn't. Out of a last resort, I called harbor freight.... thinking, "There's no way they'll have these."

Turns out... they did! In Viton and Nitrile! I went there and bought 4 kits and took them to the machinist and what'ya know, THEY FIT.

So... hurdles jumped. The machinist and I are super stoked, nervous, and excited about this.

Figured I'd let you all know where we are at. I think in the very worst case, if we end up in some sort of weird postponement, it could be friday maybe at the latest, but it sounds like thursday is probably the day.

I'll keep everyone posted.

And the Dyno day guessing game is still on (he got a kick out of all the guesses). Based on what he said I have a better idea of what we are expecting, but I won't ruin it, since the betting game is more fun that way.

I like that there is now a Lamborghini with Harbor Freight parts on the engine.

You think they have some cool stickers? Maybe I could put a "powered by" and then slap a harbor freight under it for E36 M3s and giggles.

Somehow, the Megasquirt seems appropriate. It's probably the most advanced part of the car - but not TOO advanced.

This should make you feel better about what you're building: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Lamborghini-Other-/401287408464?hash=item5d6e97eb50:i:401287408464&vxp=mtr

If you do that, you also need a sticker of Calvin peeing on a Ferrari logo.

This apparently exists. http://www.decalsplanet.com/item-2178-pee-on-ferrari.html

There is a shirt i've wanted from lambopower since i can remember, though it's no longer made.

I'd take just the "Life is too short to drive a Ferrari" as a sticker. Would look great on the Sentra

Alright those are amazing. I just about put an apple bite through my nose. Was that a forum shirt and what's the copyright like? Because I know a guy that does vinyl.

No idea on the copyright. It was made by lambopower.com

We had some major clearance issues with stuff.

  • head deck caused chain housing to not clear (fixed)
  • the caps for the keepers on the valves wouldn't work on the new springs (had to be machined and fixed)
  • o-rings for intake wouldn't work (fixed)
  • coolant tubes were having clearance issues (also fixed)

The engine is finally together. The machinist is working on getting everything together tonight. We would do dyno day tomorrow, but he has some appointments for stuff tomorrow. It sounds like saturday or sunday (at the latest I'd assume) should be "the day". Fingers crossed there are no more issues.

The valve clearances are incredibly tight. At top dead center if you roll the cam over 1-2mm the valves touch the pistons. Talk about an interference motor.

Here's some photos I snagged while I dropped off more hardware and orings today. As you can see, heads finally on. The pic i took is before he relieved the chain cover, which he was getting ready to do just before I left. I'd imagine he's probably already done and by now things are likely nearly finished.

The new oil return tubes we ended up using from a VW setup.

We are pretty much there.

Is there any documentation for the reasoning behind the engine design? It sure seems like it has some unique features, and I wonder what led them to make those decisions?

Really good question. Let me contact Jack Riddell and see if I can get some information. He has been my go to source for history and I enjoy learning from him.
