So I recently put my money where my mouth was and bought a new car.

Original purchase thread

I ordered a 2022 Subaru BRZ  Limited 6-Speed back in December.  I figured light weight, rear wheel drive, manual transmission cars are probably going to get harder to come by as time goes on, so now was the time to pick one up.

It showed up Saturday!

The car had 4 miles on it when I picked it up.

Part of the reason I wanted this car is because it would be suitable for motorsports without extensive modification.

Its nice to be able to order parts at the dealership for a car that hasn't been out of production for 28 years. (Here's looking at you 1992 SE-R)

On my way home from work I stopped at Subaru of Jacksonville and ordered a few accessories.

They had the rubber floor liners in stock and the windsheild shade, so I grabbed those today.

The crash bolts, trunk liner and car cover were not in stock but will be in on Wednesday.

I was also able to pick up a used spare tire for a legacy that is the same part number as the factory 1st gen spare.  I wanted the piece of mind provided by a real spare and not a can of fix a flat.

So lame how car companies aren't including spares anymore, even tho the space for them is there.  Same thing on my golf R, I had to retrofit the spare.  Good thing I did as I used it 3 times in the 2.5 years I had the car!

Would REALLY like to hear how you like this car. Strongly considering a GR86 for a commuter/daily driver car. Please keep this thread updated!

Didn't you originally order white? Is there a story there or did you change your mind? The silver looks sharp and I love those wheels. They look like Advanti Storms.

At least you have room for a spare tire... ND doesn't even have a jack lol

I did order a white premium originally.  Good memory!

I put my deposit down the day before subaru closed orders for 2022 models.  The dealer was unable to put my order through because subaru closed the order banks.

The car I ended up with was ordered earlier in December at subaru of Jacksonville. The individual who ordered it picked up a blue one from a canceled order in Tallahassee.  When he posted on the GR86 Facebook group that his order was available I jumped on it.

Car now has 175 miles on it.  I am extremely happy with my purchase so far.

It has more torque then I was expecting especially considering I have been shifting before 4000 RPM.  The steering is awesome and it turns in really well, despite this the suspension is supple and not too stiff.  I really feel subaru did a good job with the suspension tuning.

The shifter is good, not s2000 perfect but pretty darn close.  The seats are great, comfortable, supportive and they look really sporty.  The stereo is sufficient, it works for talk radio but is a little muddy sound wise for anything else.  The interior is a good size for what the car is, and I fit well despite being 6'4".

I can't wait to hit 1000 miles so I can start tearing around and sign up for its 1st autocross.

I've wondered about these cars. Are they Subaru (build quality wise) branded as Toyota, or Toyota branded as Subaru? The Subaru vehicles I've driven have invariably seemed lighter and more cheaply made than a Toyota feels like.

They are built by subaru and branded as either a Toyota or a subaru depending on which one you get.

My work car is a 2020 camry and I would say the quality feels similar to the BRZ.

Going to have to see to believe that you fit well in there (with a helmet)!!

370 miles so far.  Average mileage is 25.4 mpg.

I picked up some detailing supplies and a new wash mit.  I plan to clay bar the car and then get a good ceramic coat on it.

Trunk mat and the fitted oem car cover arrived.

I picked up a wireless charger for the car.  I splurged on a tackform. It is substantially nicer than the bobo Amazon specials I have in my other two cars.

I also picked up an atachmounts.com GR86 mount.  It is made specifically for the 22+ twins.

I took my wife to Hilton Head for our Anniversary.

Of course we took the BRZ.

We had a great time!  By the time we got back Sunday evening the car had 970 miles.

I took it in this morning for its first oil change.  I figured it couldn't hurt to have fresh oil before I took it over 4000 RPM.

I then promptly took it out of town.  My son and I went to the Georgia Aviation Museum in Warner Robbins.

By the time we got home the car had 1450 miles on it.

Average mileage given all the highway driving is 29.2 MPG.

I had to wash it in the dark to get all the bug guts off of it.

New tires and wheels for autocross showed up today.

Sport Edition A17's.  17x7.5 18.8lbs $122.00 each from tirerack.com.  could not justify the extra cost for RPF1's.

225 40r17 RT660'S.

Put together some magnetic number panels.

The silver isn't quite the same but it will work...

I got the plastic panel over the glove box recovered in suede to match the rest of the interior.

I am happy with the way the panel came out, it adds a touch of class to the interior.

Love the phone mount! It is very secure and fits perfectly.  The tacform wireless charger is great, I am actually ordering one for my truck to replace the bobo chinesium one I currently have in it.

I changed the differential fluid and the transmission fluid today.  I went with Motul 300 which is popular with the 86 crowd.  Its super nice working on a new car, every thing is clean and not in need of restoration.

Next we aligned the car and installed the factory camber bolts.  I was able to get -1.4 on the passenger side and-1.2 on the drivers side.

Yeah. I got 1.5 degrees on one side and 1.4 degrees on the other with the crash bolts. Looking good. I just got my 2nd track weekend in. I added the Perrin adjustable 22MM FSB and love it. You loose some of the rear playfulness but it fits my style well.

Took the BRZ to its 1st autocross today.  This thing is awesome!  I ended up 10th out of 90 in PAX.  I apparently hit a cone on my best lap otherwise I would have had the 8th fastest time of the day.

Car felt great on course, it turns really well and I never felt like it could use more power.  I can't wait to get it on course again.
