Totaled?, maybe.
Rebuildable? Absolutely!
Hang in there... don't make any rash decisions!!
Doing flickr from the phone, so youll have to click the link to the album.
Hard to get perspective of just how bent it is from pictures. Drivers side pused in anout a foot, passengers side pushed out about 3 inches. Axle bent. Frame bent. Floor buckleup about 3 inches. Seat moved over 2. Rear window only held in by tint. Not a singe panel still in alignment.
OUCH!!! Duster, take care of yourself first. You can always do something with the El Camino, you've shown what your abilities are. Get healthy. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Glad you're okay, keep after your medical, don't let nothin' go. Cars can be replaced.
This is why I hate phones while driving. I could choke the bitches.
Good luck with the insurance.
Im fully prepared for an insurance fight.
Im torn on wether i hope its fixed or not, to be honest. I love this truck. But practically i need a midsize extended cab truck.
I'm sure it's fixable from a technical standpoint, but I'm not sure how the dollars are going to balance out. You got lucky there boss. A little more energy in that area and you would have had some pulpy bits.
I'm at the point this morning I really hope it's not totaled and think that it may not be based upon the prices of comprable cars I found on the internet. My rough estimate of damage is right around $8,000. Comfortable cars are going for 15 to 20 right now. However I'm not an estimator or a body man. I think it will boil down to whether or not the frame is bent. And what parts are available. Should I document the insurance side of things for future reference for other people? Should I do that in a separate threat?
If you need separate advice it's more easily seen in the main forum, but I think anything that happens is part of the story, so you might as well tack it on here.
Ya, just tack it on here even if you do a insurance documentation thread. I think most of us "regulars" follow along in build threads even though we may not post in them and often ignore other topics we're not particularly interested in.
What. The. berkeley?!
This is painful.
The tailgate misalignment scares me.
Did it effect the rear window fit?
Not sure how much of this would apply to your case since you just finished a restoration, but it does kind of remind me of the MGB that I just did for someone. Should it have been fixed? Logically no it was seriously bent. Did the insurance company want to fix it? No way. But there was an agreed payout value and they paid it out.
But the owner wanted it fixed. And he somehow found me; patron saint of hopeless automotive cases.
So, on to the silver lining. There was a future intent to restore the car. There was the odd hing of rust here and there, nothing serious to look at, but I knew better,
The car had some rust in the rear quarter arches. Impossible to get rid of unless you do at least a half quarter panel repair. The front fenders were fiberglass. After the accident, the car arrived at my place after a visit to a frame rack where it was pulled probably straighter than it had been from the factory. AND it arrived with 2 factory FULL quarter panels and two new front fenders. . Combined with a trip to the sandblaster's this was going to result in a perfectly rust free car that could be expected to outlast the owner. I have seen the car recently and it is going to be much better than new. The accident has subsidized about 1/3 or the cost of a restoration that he ws going to end up doing anyway.
Is such a silver lining situation possible with the El Camino?
Pete
I would have gone down for murder 1 if someone totaled my classic like that. If it’s totaled and you don’t want to fix it post what the buy back is. Someone here I’m sure would be willing to fix it. I hope they do you right and get it fixed!
Sorry about your truck man, and I am glad to hear you walked away. It looks fixable to my very untrained eye.

I had been starting to think about some new quarters and fresh paint on this one. I fixed all the rust i had found when i restored it, but was never happy with the quarters. The paint has taken a beating over the years, but was still a good 10 footer.
There may be a silver lining to this much like your mgb. All depends on insurance and what bodyman Bill says this week. And if the frame is bent.
As bad as it sounds, where my heart is: if one of the centerline billet wheels is bent, i hope they total it. If its not, i hope they fix it. The wheels make this truck in my eye. Without them, I'll probably fall out of love again prettu quickly.
