Hazmat had a completely uneventful day today out at mineral wells. But it was cut short..

The RS4's are starting to come apart at the shoulders because the lack of camber is just killing them. Camber is new top priority if I'm going to get seat time. Lapping at mineral wells is just too abraisive.

Wish I could have made it out there today. But yea, mineral wells (the few times I've been out there) does seem super aggressive on tires.

So busy week for Hamzat.

Pulled the passenger front wheel to look at the rack and noticed that grease had slung out of the axle onto the oil filter I installed 4 weeks ago.. So thats another item to load into the parts cannon.

My bushings arrived for the rack, now i just need to find time to install them and I'm keeping an eye on the axle to see if it's an immediate need or it can wait a few weeks.

And after talking to some other civic friends I've decided to dump the 0W40 Mobil 1 I put in and go to 5W30 Motul 8100 EFE since it doesn't burn as easily as the Mobil 1.

It was 48 and rainy today in Fort Worth.

Hazmat is much less E36 M3box looking when it rains.. LoL

I replied in the other random thread. I agree the later cars look better. It all depends on how badly you want to buy a fully built Skunk2 stage 2 B18 head (good for 220 whp) and an Integra type R transmission from me. I do have pallets at work. Location is near Chicago. I also have some other fun bits, but those 2 big ticket items are the best.

If there's an emissions/inspection advantage to the older one, I'd go that route(IDK where you are at). Otherwise I'd go newer.

Parts availability for the sedans is going to be an issue. So make sure you fully take that into account before you buy one.

Thank you kindly. Went and drove it. Boy it was CLEAN!!! It is all stock, EXCEPT for type R springs and shocks. It needs shocks for sure. Going to see how much shocks are. So sedans and coupes use same lenght shock body?

When you say parts availabiliy - do you mean aftermarket modification parts?

In reply to mr2s2000elise :

I mean if you break some of the interior bits or rubber parts start to dry out, acura isn't carrying them anymore. And if it gets damaged in an accident.. Parts may be impossible to come by, so you might consider an agreed value insurance policy. I chose to not trade hazmat for one because the point of hazmat is to be able to damage the car on track and fix it cheaply or buy another chassis for cheap to transfer the parts over to.

And also, I'm far from an expert on these cars. I just spent some time looking into them when the trade for one was presented to me.

Well Hazmat decided to pitch a fit last night.

I got in the car to drive home and PO2647 for a failed VTEC oil pressure switch.

Oil level was fine, reset the light and drove home.

Drained the ow-40, refilled with the Motul 5W-30 and when I went to leave for work this morning the code returned and I also have a VSA light, so Idk what's up but I may have a bad wheel speed sensor via me damaging it. I'm not sure...

and when I was under the car last night I did find that there's a bit of play on the passenger side axle inner CV joint that's slinging grease.

SO new VTEC oil pressure sensor, passenger side axle, VTEC valve body gasket, and new front wheel speed sensors all ordered.

New plot twist!

Went home for lunch, got the car warmed up, grabbed some stuff and went to drive back to office. reset codes and the VSC light went off as well as the CEL, but i had expected the VSC light to persist.

Drive to end of street, hard braking ABS operates perfectly.. Pull out onto street. Make U turn, hard pull all the way to VTEC and 7800 rpm and then release throttle and coast for about 4-5 seconds... and then

BINGO! CEL returns.......AND the VSC light returns.... NOW thats interesting!

So... I'm leaving for F1 for the weekend tonight and I'll start digging into it with Mazdaface once i get back after the weekend.

And then.. I'll get to say Mazdeuce's 3 favorite words

*in daytime TV Gameshow host fashion as he eggs on the audience*

To my surprise, I got notification yesterday morning that my rock auto parts arrived 3 days ahead of schedule.

Mazdaface and I are planning to tackle the axle this weekend. I'll be looking into the VTEC oil pressure sensor tonight.

Just going to capture the fact that my photo from the Hazmat and Traccord comparo made the article about the Traccord.

Lucky you. I ordered the Konis Yellow for my GSR. Coming today. Took 2 hours off work Wed to install. And tirerack and called sand said only 2 coming today, other two coming Thursday. SIGH

P.S. While I was reading the Seth One Lap article you linked, I texted him pics of my new GSR, and he mightily approved. Always love talking to someone else who also has 9 cars. LOL

Dear Honda.. Your ability to pack 12 pounds of E36 M3 in this 10lb bag of an engine bay is commendable..

But really? A mail slot??

This is all the room i get to access the stupid VTEC control solenoid valve body?

And this is after I've pulled the cowl cover and cowl off..

I think I'm starting to round off one of the bolts so I started on the next one, got it to start coming loose and called it a night. I'll catch a ride with the roommate to work tomorrow and pick up where I left off when I get home.

Yep.. That bolt is no longer 6 flat sides.. Also, Oreilly bolt extractors are junk. Other 2 bolts i got a good socket on and came out with no fuss.

2 buddies recommended irwin extractors. They're coming via amazon prime for Thursday.

I bought my roommate dinner tonight as a precursor to asking him for rides to work for the effectively entire week. Dude is a saint, i also live in his house so this is easier. But dude is still a saint.

If that bolt is into aluminum a bit of heat will probably help, doesn't need to be glowing or anything, just too hot to touch is likely enough. Obviously be careful not to melt anything around it.

Good luck.

While i await the bolt extractors. My new VTEC spool valve assembly arrived today.

That's the location of the bolt I borked.

And I called my local Honda dealer this morning. They had 1 of the bolt in stock and no others apparently available in DFW, although i haven't tried any other dealers to confirm. Paid for it over the phone and will pick up after work.

Old bolt still hasn't been removed yet, but I picked up the replacement last night.

The Honda answer to Chinese counterfeits is to bag bolts individually I guess. Works for me!
