The candies need a silver or gold base, and a clear but since it dries fast you can usually do it all in one day and polish it the next if need be.
I've actually got quite a few jars of HoK candies and pearls. My dad used to race slot cars and worked at a body shop, so he picked up a few leftovers over the years. I also build model cars and love using automotive urethane paint and clear. Here's a shot of a Tamiya NSX I just got through building, it was shot with pearl and then cleared with 2k Urethane.
