So in a haze of self-loathing and poor judgement, I bought an Italian car from the $201x Classifieds. More specifically, a yellow Fiat x1/9. Hey, it's a $600 Italian car, what could possibly go wrong???
Pushed the car into the shop last Sunday, and gave it a quick once-over. Yep, it's Italian... And yellow.
First order of business, after getting all the misc. spare parts inventoried, will be rust-repair. The seller mentioned rust, and yep, it's there... But it pretty much all appears to be surface-rust, with no rot-through. I'd like to keep it that way.
I'm still debating which way to go, power-wise. I have a pickled 12a with a Racing-Beat Holley intake, but rotary swaps in this car have issues. I'm also considering a liter sport bike engine. 14k redline would be cool in a little car like this.
I also have a $200 1st-year in U.S. Lancia Zagato, with a decent carbed 2.0 twin-cam.
My other option is something that no one would ever expect to be swapped into a car, and would rupture spleens and eardrums when it's uncorked...
Unfortunately, my phone and Photo bucket are not cooperating right now as far as posting pix... Will have some up this weekend.

Thats a pretty bold statement for this place.
Chrysler A57 MultiBank?

Nope... This is something that will fit in the same basic space as a sport-bike engine, but has a deep, guttural howl when you get on it.
Chrysler 2.4 DOHC Turbo drivetrain, uses the stock axles with Chrysler inboard CV's. Boom, 400hp with moar boosts added.
Or if you're into old Skool: use a Maserati TC DIHC motor (Cosworth head) or the R/T DOHC (Lotus head).

I'm contemplating the Chrysler angle, but right now I'm just looking at the budget-friendly options already at my disposal.
3.5 Rover, oooo ah ha 455 Toronado mid mounted.... No a Rolls Royce Turbine.
Please use a 250hp V6 2 stroke outboard power head with all 6 exhaust going through the deck lid in some sick display of expansion chamber based porn. Baby Jesus would return as Chuck Norris saddle up Nessie and ride her to the challenge to approve.

I have an engine-bay roughly the same size as a Hello Kitty lunch-box...

No boat engines, but Zoomies exiting skyward behind the rear window are a given, regardless of what engine I go with!!!
Did somebody say louder than hell but not a rotary? The answer is Mazda KL.

I'm gonna guess indy piped Yamaha v6. Because nothing better in an italian car than a boat motor for an american sedan made by a Japanese piano builder.
In reply to SF1, JY and VP... Nah, you are all incorrect.
This could be fun... If anyone can figure this out, I will buy them their choice of either a GRM Hoodie, or unlined Mechanic's jacket.
To narrow it down...
NOT an automotive engine
NOT a boat engine
NOT a Harley engine
Will fit the same basic space as a sport-bike engine, but will sound vaguely like a Big-block Chevy when the throttle is floored.
And, go...
Two more "nope's" and one "really?"...
Peugeot F1 engine, detuned to 14K redline

Maybe the Chevy 153 or later 181 four that was used in forklifts? I can't imagine why you'd want to do that even if you could.

I never knew I wanted a BMW motorcycle this much.
Ducati motors sound lots like BBCs...
I'm guessing something rotary that used to belong in an aircraft?
