My vote is for whatever has the most offset so you will be forced to cut as much fender off as possible and make it more open wheel racecar

I like the idea of Infiniti wheels on a Toyota.

I have been waiting for this thread!!

The interior truly was a toxic waste dump. The mold was in the car when I bought it, but then I stuck it in a dark hot shipping container with no air ventilation and let it breed for a year.

Travis' pics are AFTER I cleaned it up!! surprise

I still have to work Friday, so we can start that evening.

What kind of tires are on that RX-8? FMV for the wheels? I will have a lot of budget left

The tires are officially WTF's. They're old. They will get you through the event.

FMV?  Not much. You'll have to get a few other GRMers to chime in, but I say $100.

I can't get them to you in time for the weekend, but I could drop them off Monday morning.

I like having all these suitors that want me to wear their rubber. Maybe that came out wrong.

Or rubber that is ready to blow-out when pushed.

Didn't some gal overseas get in big trouble for that recently?

In the back of my mind I've been slightly worried about the engine health. It makes quite a racket...just have a listen. This was right after the really bad noise went away of course.

https://youtu.be/kC-4n2AYSfY

So I changed the oil. All of it came out, which is good. There was zero sludge in the filter, maybe just a thin residue inside the canister. Not crazy for 200k miles. And I found ZERO shavings, particles, and otherwise misplaced metallic objects. So I'm thinking alternator bearing/overrunning clutch.

Also I did a fitment calculation on Gumby's thicc set of wheels. The "reach around the tire with my hand test" says I have very little room from rim to strut. Definitely under 2", so not sure that will work.

Solution is simple.  Relocate the strut.

^^ I'm betting it's the tire. I had those Infiniti 17s on my Maxima (though mine were the 17x8s) and don't recall them being particularly heavy....I think they were about 25lbs, so not light, but not heavy as OEM wheels go.

That said, i may be totally wrong about that, since that Maxima had about 7 different sets of wheels on it over the years lol.

That said, they coudln't have been that heavy, since I used them for autocross so they were likely lighter than my stock wheels...IDK

They do look good in motion though :)

Remember they are staggered offset. Do you have more clearance to the strut at one end of the car vs. the other?

Run all the spacer!

*edit. Pop the accessory belt off and see if the noise goes away.

Too much work for a one night stand.

Cut the mounts off bottom of strut, and top three inches of shaft. Bend steel tube that clears new tire snd meets those two points. Weld. Done. Spring rate goes up, unsprung weight goes down, budget barely impacted.

Spacers removed from thunderbird and in the mustang. If you decide you want to use them just let me know.

I'll have to make sure the lug nuts are correct. Avalon is M12x1.50.

My NHRA wind deflector material arrived and in the box was an interesting sticker. I know just the bumper to slap this on.

As an avalon owner, though mine is a hybrid, I approve of this build.

In reply to maschinenbau (I live here) :

Is that acrylic sheet?  That stuff loves to shatter.  Especially if you drill it.  Is that what's called out in the NHRA rules?

I would have expected polycarbonate.

In reply to TVR Scott (Forum Supporter) :

Crap, you're right. I accidentally ordered acrylic. NHRA doesn't specify the type of plastic. This stuff is 3/16" thick though and I'll have a full-face helmet on. I think it will be fine.
