Thanks for the route and the phone number. Hoping I won't need it, but I'll keep it handy.

This car is 100% coming to a Dallas near you.
Maybe not on the way home, but my kid is in school up there and there is a high likelihood that one of us is going to grab this out of the stable to go get her one of these times. Consider yourself warned.
Sure thing. Here to help if needed. Betty is getting tucked in for the winter here soon but the VeeDub is mountain winter ready and I've got a spare bed. Looked at the 10 day and they are saying more snow this coming weekend to my part of the world but the Moab direction is looking much better.
You know...This is just an excuse to come back up for summer camp and really enjoy the roads around here. I'm planning on attending next year with Betty.
Moab isn’t completely a consolation prize. The run down 128 is gorgeous gorgeous, and it’s pretty good south of Moab on 191 as well. Do not take 191 from I-70 to Moab, you would do yourself a disservice. That’s the RV and “I’m towing three trail rigs with my F450” route.
Im not looking at a map, but you may be able to hit Monument Valley without going too far out of your way.
(Looks at map) okay, maybe not. But you could hit up Mesa Verde pretty easily for some cliff dwellings, and there are petroglyphs all over 191.
I would guess that Seth and his son together don't add up to near enough weight to get nasty tire-on-body noises, so that's good. I love the parts of Colorado i've been to and a trip from FM back this way sounds pretty amazing, weather permitting. I'm actually drawing a blank on how I would feel about 15-19hrs of driving in something this small. I did take my Honda Insight to Colorado but those things are relatively huge inside. I guess Seth will have to let us know how it goes.

I drove back from Ohio in the crappy Miata just a couple of weeks ago and thought it was fine. Rufus is going to be the lap of luxury in comparison.
In reply to bmw88rider :
I have almost nothing to do this week except be obnoxiously excited about this. You're not helping. At all.

That problem was sorted about 20 minutes after the video was finished. I was ready to kill somebody when that problem surfaced, as it managed to make that video about one single thing instead of the attributes of the car itself. Especially when a coworker told me he knew about the rubbing but had never bothered to mention it.
Arches was incredible. I actually never went to an un-cenic or not awesome part of that country. We spebt about a week based out of durango this summer. Absolutely amazing.
You'll be driving through Castle Valley on the way through 128 if you want to google some inspirational images. I don't have any of mine handy right now, but here's what you'll see.
People keep sending me pictures of stuff along our proposed route. Then I show them to my wife. Then she gets grumpy that I get to do this trip.
I'm REALLY excited.
Also, Mexican food.
In reply to Stampie :
Yes, but Colo-Mex might be even more special than Tex-Mex. You can only learn these things through experimentation.
Friday is so far away........
Colorado Mexican food is fantastic. I love my east coast Mexican food but the western stuff had so much better spice. Not just heat but lots of flavor. Mmm lengua tortas.
And go to in-n-out and get a double double.

No in-n-out in CO, alas.
You young man owe Momma Big Time for this......let me repeat BIG TIME!!!! GET IT????.....and not flowers/chocolates either......her 'todo' list is numero uno when you get home and don't forget it.....BE SAFE!!!

crud, thats right. I got way too excited visiting denver before, thinking i was far enough west for in n out. But somehow they have one in Dallas?? Well there is some great Vietnamese restaurants in denver.
In reply to TJL :
They have a couple in Dallas and some in Austin. Haven't made it to Houston yet as far as I know. Denver is on the other side of those big snowy things from Flyin' Miata and it's looking like we're going to head a bit west and a whole lot south before crossing the mountains. No matter what the second day is going to be boring as every route from the western side of Texas back to Houston has about 600 miles of flat.
Mexican food, a tiny enclosed space, and a 19 hour drive...
...Sounds like it'll be a great bonding time with your son.
Mrs. Deuce may want to have the car detailed and deodorized before she starts commuting in it, though.
Well, You can at least get some good hatch chili dishes in New Mexico. Or you can go to Los Alamos and give Rufus a lasting glow.
Tell Mrs. Deuce that it would be a good vacation to come up and run up Pikes Peak. I'll even volunteer Betty if you fly and do a rental so you can do it properly.

In-N-Out is an interesting case study, they build around distribution centers and are not franchises. Once there’s a distribution center, you can have restaurants within a certain radius. Once the Front Range center is built, our little town am MAY be close enough to get a restaurant. Maybe.
We have good Mexican food and a good Nepalese restaurant. Also one kickass pizzeria. It’s not a gourmet destination, though.
Seth, where are you planning on spending Saturday night? Grand Junction? Moab? Elsewhere? Just trying to get a feel for when you might want to head out. You definitely do not want to sneak into Moab under cover of darkness. The mountains are looking rough for Friday for sure, so you’re going to have to go that way. We can spend some quality map time when you’re here.
A lot of that depends on when it gets dark. It looks like we can make Monticello UT by way of Naturita and the good roads in a bit less than four hours. Google says sunset in Monticello is 5:00 right now.
It's been a while since I've done a fly and drive off the freeways in the off season with a kid.
In more car related news, I need to figure out a front plate solution. I'm sure I can scrounge a factory plate bracket, but what else is out there for the ND?

While I agree that they are ugly, I HAVE been stopped for it and have very recently had a state trooper check to see if I had one.
This looks like it was ammended to be effective September 10 2018.
