That stuff is awesome. I used it in my Spec Miata and added the remainder to my FD also.
People always ask why I wear jeans during the summer at autocross events. It's to prevent leg burns. No more!
More progress in the shop with shelving and organization. My heater is quite capable of keeping the garage in the 60's, so that's good as cold weather really moves in. Looking forward to the new year and wrapping up the RX7.
Next immediate steps are hanging my speakers and finally utilizing all the audio wiring I ran all over the place before sheetrocking. Then another set of shelves, finding a use for the heavy ass 4x8 galvanized steel doors I have and then.... more painting.

I should have done this when I was DD'ing this car. The heat from the transmission tunnel would get unbearable on a hazy/hot/humid summer day. I also need to drop by the shop sometime to check out your progress!
I've owned my place for 14 months now, and in that time I've taken a shell of a building and turned it into a shop I'm pretty proud of. I spent about 24 hours in the past 2 days working to finalize things and I'm seriously chuffed with the results.
To put this to scale, that's 16' of work table.
No excuses on the car now. It's go time!
It's really nice to work without shadows.
More projects today!
I'm a big fan of hard board work surfaces. Smooth, durable and cheap so when they get wrecked you can pull it off and toss it.
And now something for the RX7 - a hot wire foam cutting rig!
I have a couple rolling cabinets that I use for random projects, swapping tops on and off. Here's a new top for this project. It's keyed in so it locks up tight.
Snug as a bug
Removable hard board surface held still with a couple dowels (they get pushed flat when in use). Note the metal bushing in the middle to protect the wood from heat.
A hook in the ceiling holds the top of the wire and a speed square allows easy centering of the table underneath it, which means nothing in the way of larger forms for cutting. A bungee cord maintains tension on the wire, which will lengthen slightly when heated.
I use a 60's model train transformer and it certainly heats up the wire, then clicks off after 30 seconds... I'll need a better way of doling out the power. I also need a smaller metal bushing to hold the wire even closer.
This is my first wire cutter build, so I'm pretty excited with the result. Next up is eps box flares and wings!
That looks nice a productive way of mounting the hot wire. The wire doesn't move/flex when you push the foam through?
Also what heater do you use? I've got a similar size and shape garage.
In reply to catapultkid:
The wire is pretty heavy gauge so there's no flex to it. There's very little movement overall, and there will be even less when I find a smaller bushing. Heater is: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dyna-Glo-50K-200K-LP-Convection-Heater-RMC-LPC200DG/202895383
In reply to Dusterbd13: It's semi-gloss wall paint. I do think it helps.

Out of curiosity, have you entered our Show Us Your Shop contest? Looks like you have a real contender.

Check THIS out... R/S sells this transformer and all you need otherwise is a dimmer.

Those are wood slices I'm drying out to become coasters haha.
In reply to EdHigginbotham: I did, and then I did more work to the shop. Womp womp.

Feeling sick, but still spent some time in the shop playing with the hot-wire foam cutter. There's a few tricks to it and I'm still learning them, but this is a total game changer.
A package from Longacre racing showed up today with SWMBO's name on it. I think it's my delayed Christmas present...
