I haven't posted in a while but I think I have to seek out professional advice from the expert guys on this site. Bought a 91 240sx with a ka24de dohc that was previously converted to a 5 speed manual. The engine looks rough but it starts and runs perfect. Figured I would turbo it since I have a wide supply of parts available for this thing. I have turbos, intercoolers, waste gates, bov's, and custom piping covered. Larger flowing injectors and a higher volume fuel pump will have to be ordered new, a simple one day wait for the parts. My biggest fear in this is the re-flashing or piggyback setup for the ecu. How difficult is it to wire up a piggyback? Is anyone on here an expert on piggyback wire ups? If so I would like some info.
Screw a piggy back, get nistune or megasquirt I promise. I think you can chip that ecu too which is a viable option. We used a chip on a ca18de with a gtir turbo and it worked well enough for what it was. Cellphone repair/computer shops can solder in the socket or chip.
In reply to chiodos:
Dude thanks, I'll look into the chip option. Can you recommend me someone who can make me a chip?
Yea, ECU flash is the way to go. Jim Wolf does then, lots of other companies too (Enthalpy still around?)but I haven't looked into it in a while.
No factory oil squirters and head gaskets get fragile on KA's with boost on them. Personally I'd run a t28 from an s14 on up SR20DET at stock boost levels and no more than 10 psi. Fuel pump, 550ccs, z32 maf, ebay intercooler. You should put down 210s and mid 240 ish tq. +/-
Enthalpy was great and I dont know if they are still around but theyd be my first choice. ROM tuning is cheap , old school but done enough that you can get pretty close with them. I'd throw a wideband o2 and a Apexi SAFC on it to fine tune.
With ebay and craigslist, for a little over a grand including tuning I think you be good to go.
