I am looking to run the Modified class for scca rallycross.  I have my factory battery relocated to the trunk.  It's securely mounted but do I need to have it in a sealed battery box?  The rules don't specify that it's necessary and it's not used for rallysprint or stage stuff.  Just local rallyx at a farm.  Thank you.

First, I have to point out that they've revised the 2023 ruleset a little bit.  They've clarified that modified Eligible Vehicles section to say that they must meet one of the two following requirements: a, b, or c.  So the numbering is better, but they still can't count....

Anyhoo...  In section 3.2.N they discuss batteries.  If it's a lead-acid battery it has to be in a marine-type box.  If it's a dry battery, then it doesn't have to be in a box.  All batteries have to be secured and have their positive terminal covered.

What's still very confusing and poorly written in this version, though, is that they make a big deal about how if they don't say you can do it, that means it's expressly disallowed.  But other than calling the rules for mod "preparation requirements", it is not abundantly clear that the mod rules are the opposite of the stock and prep ones:  In this case you can do anything you want as long as it doesn't break these rules.

These people seriously need to hire some writers.

I saw that.  If you just read the stock, prepared, and modified class rules; under prepared it just says I can relocate it and it's fine.  But that 3.2 "safety catch all" section, goes into detail about needing a box, insulating it, etc.  So I guess, I need to put it in a box?

If I were in charge of this document, I would have written that section from Prepared thusly:

Batteries may be substituted with any type. Relocation of the battery or batteries within the engine compartment or trunk area/luggage compartment behind the rearmost seats is permitted. Longer battery cables may be substituted to permit relocation and holes may be drilled to accommodate mounting of the battery and cables.  Relocation of the battery must be performed in accordance with section 3.2.N

But, of course, while it always used to be a ruleset that built on itself, mod is no longer a "everything allowed in prepared plus..." category, so what you're seeing in prepared isn't necessarily relevant any longer for mod.
