It's good to have friends.

Texted somebody more well versed than myself and made some progress. Essentially what I think happened is I somehow managed to adjust the throttle cable with the throttle blades on the high idle cam, so it wouldn't idle down. If I manually articulated the high idle cam I could see the throttle lever move forward a ways and saw that it was now resting on the idle screw.

What I'm not sure of is the choke functionality when it's cold. I've been messing with the car all night and it's gotten warmed up. I'm thinking that it's going to work ok tomorrow when I start it cold.

I also found yet another fuel leak, the fittings on the pump that I cracked on the last pump are now apparently not tight enough.

So, I'm going to bed with a measure of success, and some further insight into what may give me issues tomorrow.

Im still here, finally got the 4 barrel installed and working the way I want it. Been a busy summer, had my first child! Still driving  and tinkering on this as time allows with a newborn.

I was having trouble uploading pictures earlier but I seem able to now. I know I had some stuff on finishing the Holley carb install I'll try and come back and finish telling that story

As for this picture, it was taken at a fun little Friday night deal a friend put together. It was actually taken on a digital camera that shot on floppy discs, which I had never heard of. The pictures turn out kinda 'bad' quality but have a neat effect

Here's the remainder of the floppy disc pictures, as well as some rolling shots a friend took on a much more modern cell phone camera.

The comment was made that these pictures look like what you'd see posted on a forum back in the heyday of forums in the early 2000's. I think it's only appropriate to share them here. :)

Fun!

Oh, and an update on my carb/choke issues - after multiple efforts tinkering fiddling and cleaning the choke pull off levers and linkages I finally have it working right.

Interestingly I think it was working the whole time, but the standard throttle blip was too quick for choke cam to fall down. What I've found works is applying light pressure to the pedal for 2-3 seconds (just enough to get it above the high idle) and then let it come down. Since figuring that out the carb has been working great and the car drives much nicer. I wouldn't say it's faster but it is more drivable and starts better. That's all I was really hoping for!

Seatbelts!

Installed my rear seat belts yesterday. This was one of those tasks I really figured I would never get around to doing, but am very excited I did. This means the kids seat can go back there and we can start taking family cruises in the Merc!

and like that *poof* she's gone.

This marks the end of my Mercury journey.  Sold it to a very nice couple who was excited to cruise and enjoy this old girl as much as my wife and I did.

New opportunities ahead!

Mostly I was ready for a change. I accomplished the 'look' I was going for with the car, enjoyed it, and now it's time to let somebody else enjoy it!

Can't keep 'em all and I have a variety of other automotive projects and ideas I want to explore. Selling this frees up space and money for the next adventure which may or may not have already been acquired
