I have had a bunch of different motorcycles over the years. But I really miss having dual sports and adventure bikes.

So I set out to get my next bike. Prices on dual-sports have just been STUPID high lately. I first was going to get another KLR650. I found some nice ones around 3500 and that would have been a great option. But the more I thought about the type of riding I would be doing primarily. I decided I wanted a light smaller CC bike to just do some great, kinda slow, back road plunking around with the capability to dive down a trail without having to turn around the titanic at the dead-end I find. For the big long rides I want to do in the future I'll just buy a second bike. In the meantime. A happy little dual sport is all I need. If there is something I want to ride super far away I can always strap it to the back of my Xterra and GO!

So I start down the path of 400cc and under dual sports and man are they dumb expensive right now. I bought my last DRZ 400 used a few years ago for 2500. The same bike today would be easy 5k.

My goal was to spend 2500 in 2022. There were some options but most weren't great and VERY used. Then I stumbled onto this little GPX 250. I knew about GPX and had heard nothing but good stuff. New out the door you can't really beat the price, reliability and factory options. It's really wild. Truth be told... I don't really want to own anything from china... But I keep telling myself it's actually from UTAH - (home base of GPX USA)

The guy I bought the bike from has 4 GPX bikes. He is a former MX racer and has had every type and brand of dual sport you can think over the past 20 years. He is now 100% all-in on GPX. In fact, he knows more about these bikes than possibly anyone in the county.

He built this GPX 250 to look like an old 80s bike. I love it. 80's styling with brand new tech.

Here is the link to the build: https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/2019-gpx-1980-fanatic-enduro.1386675/

The bike came with both the red and blue plastics as well as the factory plastics. All for a cool $2200

Kinda hard to beat that. The bike easily climbs to 70mph and cruises with no issue at 60 and LOVES 55. It reminds me of my old XR250 in all of its plunky air cooled thumper goodness.

I have already put 100 miles on her just riding to and from work. I live in the country but work in the suburbs. I have a 30 mile round trip that's all through beautiful Florida farmland. It's like a therapy session riding home every day.

I'll keep this thread updated with my updates and adventures.

What do you think? Red or Blue? I haven't decided yet!

I like the Blue, reminds me of an old Yamaha IT250

Awesome. I'll have to check these out. Just picked up a CSC TT250 and have been really enjoying it.

I watched the build thread of this one on ADVRider, and forced myself to stay away when I saw it was for sale.  You can't beat it for the price.  Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Ok that's pretty cool!

I vote blue.

We had a DR250 for awhile. My son bought it to ride mainly of road with his buddies, most of them went off to school/military, he got bored. I ended up putting more 70/30 tires on and riding it to work and on gravel roads. If it had electric start i would have kept it.

This seems like another good 250 option maybe

My brother has a DR250. It's an excellent bike. He got it right before things got dumb price-wise. His has electric start and it's perfect for exactly the type of riding I described above.

I was really pumped about it. The thread he did was really thorough. I'm excited to continue to improve upon the bike and put tons of miles on it.

Taking old girl out for her first longer ADV ride. Just a single day. But I'm pumped to get her out into the woods. I'll post updates and pictures tomorrow.

The bike did great yesterday. 150 miles of pavement and trails. I have been working on an adventure route through Florida - it's over 700 miles now. I started a YouTube channel to talk about it and get people excited about offroad exploration in Florida. Here is the video I made for yesterdays ride on the little GPX!
