My first Suburban, a 1977 model (with the same engine, only carbureted) bent a pushrod at some point and I drove it on 7 cylinders for God-knows how long. It idled a little rough, but would pull hills at 75 mph just fine.

Sub Update...no real mechanical news. But we did drive it 520 miles to South Kackalacki for Christmas to visit the in-laws, and then 520 miles home, without adding oil or coolant. I did top off the ATF, but traced that down to a loose clamp on the tranny cooler. Fuel economy was a less-than-stellar 14-15 mpg average, but I chalk that up to Mrs VCHs and my lead feet. Booking down I-81 in VA, we were usually doing just under 80 mph (the speed at which Virginia cops arrest you and put you under the jail).

Odometer turned over 186,000 on the trip. That means its time for an oil change!

Excellent! I can't wait to do some family road trips in our Suburban.
