Mike,
I custom made the flat tow bar out of 3/8 wall 2" box tube and a 90degree 3/8 wall. It went through the neat little holes in front (as you can see below). No cutting or removal of any bumper/parts required.
It bolted up to standard tow bar pin mounts that Robbie had. The box tube bolted up to the frame rails (existing tapped factory bolt holes).

Did we disconnect the driveshaft - I don't remember doing it? We probably should have done that, though I'm 100% sure that wasn't the transmission's biggest problem.
Also, tow with the key in but power off - the steering wheel needs to be able to turn. And put on tall tires for more clearance on public roads. The suspension was stiff enough that standard magnetic lights didn't hold well (do they ever?)
Wouldn't be a bad idea to cut a plywood board to place in front of the radiator and protect it from rock strikes while in transit.
oh! I think I might still have those tow bar pieces, if the new owner is interested and wants to buy us some beer.
In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
Im pretty sure that the new owner will. Can you take them to the challenge and give to stampie? Ill PayPal some beer money.
I'm going to start renting out my truck bed by the square foot.

so what's the rate in ounces of whiskey per square foot? (ozwhkypsqft?)
In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
Depends on the quality of the whiskey.

I thought about buying that car several times but each time you told me that it wasn't a car that I wanted to own. Just wanted to point that out. Congrats. When's the debrief on what's been done to it since the last time we've seen it?
Stampie: im not sure i want to own it. Its cursed.
But its the CAGE i want to own. Ad the correct tool for the job i want to do.
I also did more stupid

Haha, look forward to seeing it again, hope you can address some of its woes.
Besides the cage, and the outstanding flares/neat shape of the car itself...everything needs to be addressed...but the current owners know this.
Stampie,
You absolutely dodged a bullet my man.
You have to have unconditional paternal love to make this relationship work. Only Mike has this. He knows this.
It's this angry adolescent with no identity, and insists on being in a permanent state of broken...it needs love. It needs nurturing. And there's only one cure...more cowbell!
The car at this point is a roller. No drivetrain, very little wiring left, etc. Its going to require an entire redo. Starting with sandblasting for dealing with the rust poking through all the seamwelds.
Its a huge project..
Wait. Duster owns this car again and this time he's going to try and make it nice?
I wish I was in his area to help.
Wait, Michael did you buy a Metro?
In reply to untchabl :
Yup. Probably shouldn't have.
But i drove it 350 miles flat out home from Atlanta without issue!
Amc: lots to think about before starting. Its also a little ways down the list of things to do.
But step one was get what was left home. 700 miles, 20 hours, $200 in diesel fuel, and my two best friends later thats done.
The AMC still lives! Kinda?
And I'm going to need to know more about that Metro.

1999. 127k, previously to the challenge. Don't know much more than that other than 15s, seems lowered, and les said it had a high flow exhaust. Its an experimental work car for me.
In reply to Dusterbd13-michael :
Nice!
If you decide you don't want it, we should talk. My dad drove them when I was a kid so I've kinda always wanted one but haven't come across one in decent shape.
