Picked up a pair of Traxxas TRX4M's a couple months back for me and the kiddo. I figured these would be the best way for me to get back into RC stuff with since they are smaller, inexpensive, slow and have a large and growing catalog of parts. The bigger scale and accuracy sold me on these over the similar Axial offering.
Purchased from a local hobby shop. Got the 2 rigs, AA batteries, 2 spare truck batteries and led light kits for both.

I'll be interested to hear how they go-I've gotten my kids interested in RC (Lunchbox for them, ECX Circuit with aftermarket BL setup for me), but with space constraints we can only really use them when we go to the beach - something smaller scale could be just the ticket.
Got them out in the snow and mud in the yard a few weeks ago.

First round of upgrades
Steel beadlock wheels with sticky 62mm tires
+2mm hubs
steel high clearance control arms
aluminum transfer case skid plate/control arm mount
Steel long slip drive shafts
LED light bar (I always say lockers before light bars, fortunately these are already locked)
Multi position shock mounts
Trailer for the kiddo
Defender build 1.0
This is with everything except the shock mounts and light bar installed, ran out of time that day.

Testing
Lowered the front end a bit, installed more shims on all four upper control arms to help pinion angle. I had added length to all four rear control arms when I installed them for a tiny bit more wheel base.
