Thanks guys. I guess I should expand on the fans/gas chamber thing. This is in no way sealed. The bottom edge is open plus the roof panels aren't taped together but in a few places. There's also a 2x3 foot portal to climb in. If a strong breeze comes you can actually feel it. It's purpose is to prevent over spray. I suggested we just spray in an empty shopping center lot but was overruled.
Yesterday the primer laid down nice. We decided to push it and put down some color. I think I messed up sometime cleaning the gun because paint started leaking out the nozzle. As the droplets formed on the nozzle it would shoot a drop out on the car and cause a run. So we shut down.
Today came the rain. Got over to Chris's and it actually wasn't that bad. The top pooled up and a little went in the windshield and rear window. We went ahead and sanded down the runs and other little areas we noticed.
Then we went to the liquor store.
Nothing like a little Irish, to smooth things out.... Must give a man his dew. Better luck is coming your way.
Forgot to thank Dusterdb13 for all his advice on painting. When you get to my age new things disturb the force. He's made the transition easier.
You ain't that old.....
And your welcome. Im just a redneck with a rabbit foot and no fear of failure. Only reason I know what i know.....
your neighbors must love you!
I'm proud of you for tackling the paint Stampie. It's a big deal.

It's Chris's neighbors and while they think we're crazy they just laugh and move on.
In reply to mazdeuce - Seth :
Thanks but I'm sitting here thinking I'd rather have an ugly car with a turbo. But I know/hope it'll look much better.
In reply to Stampie :
My neighbors would call whoever they could find to make me tear that down immediately.
I once moved a large metal shelf out of my garage to get another car in before a snowstorm. The shelf was found later behind my house under the deck because it was an eyesore.
The sky is clear. We just made the call to finish painting as soon as I get there.

So far out of the three neighbors this evening, one asked if we could paint his truck, one thought it was cool that we're painting a car ourselves, and the other is talking about coming to the Challenge next Friday.
that sounds like a good set of neighbors... depending on how painting someone elses' truck goes
that is a good set of neighbors. One of hte reason i love driving the LS1-KART to work is that i hope hearing it rumble to life at ~515am from my garage directly adjacent to a neighbors masterbedroom helps motivate them to move!
In reply to Stampie :
Any openings in the neighborhood? I could use a winter home.

Chris wants to sell. Then you and I can hang out and paint cars in your new driveway.
Color coat took three evenings of painting. I lost count of how many coats. We sprayed the entire gallon and I bet I'll still be able to find spots that are light. I was so tired of painting I was yelling at the gun to berking run out of paint. Tomorrow the booth comes down and maybe we put her back together.
Sneak preview. It's not perfect as we have a lot of detailing to do but overall I'm happy with my first paint job.
I think it's pretty clear that Oxide is in!
I hear that orange is the new flat black.
Looks good!
Looking forward to seeing this at the challenge. I want to paint a car someday.
Nice work!
Side question - if I were to also paint my car in a driveway, do I absolutely need the tent contraption or can I do it open-air, maybe just cover the concrete? I am wayyy behind on painting my Challenge car.
I paint in my gravel driveway under the trees pretty regularly. No tent. No tarp on the ground. Dont overthink it.

Sorry I wasn't clear on this. Our free paint that we were going to tint was bad so we didn't use it. At that point I said berk it the magazine asked for bolder colors and what's more bold than Valspar's Vibrant Orange. So we used Rust-Oleum metal primer 50/50 with acetone (might do mineral spirits next time) and Valspar's Zero Rust 50/50 mineral spirits for the color.

That was a good choice I started with paint that I thought was a little on the stale side. I tried to wetsand my pain(t) a week after and the old paint, that I hadn't fully sanded off, was still not dry.
