Yesterday we pulled the RX7 from the back of the driveway. The major thing in the way was the 1941 Cadillac Flathead. Moving 1000lbs of prewar iron isn't easy. Today we decided to build a cart for it.
Frame made out of scrap wood.
Put some wheels on.
Lowering the engine down.
Now I'd like to say it was a success story but the lack of follow up pictures tells a story of failure. The wheels just were too narrow to roll in the dirt. I'll add that if a Cadillac Flathead tries to tip over using your quad to try and lean it back upright isn't a good idea. I feel it enough now that I think I'll really feel it in the morning.
So we went to the meat market down the road and got a couple of filet mignons. I think I'll add more wheels and revisit it later this week.
Pull those castors and roll it on some PVC or pipe. Keeps it down low and stable.
Like an Egyptian.
In reply to wheelsmithy :
Yeah I see what you're saying how well does it turn corners?
In reply to Mr. Stampie:
Easy if you only have one pipe under it. You'll be running the back pipe that just rolled out up to the front constantly (good job for Little Stampie), but it works. I once moved a 40' long 40k lbs roll former in this manner. Runners were I beams, rollers were 2 1/2" pipe, Egyptians were fork lifts.
I also used a similar strategy to load/unload my X1/9 carcass.
Rest up, and don't let that anchor hurt you.
Plan is to get a rebuilt title on the 350z before we rip it apart. Tomorrow Lil Stampie and I are going to "prep" it for the inspection. That meant our after school project was repairing the front bumper cover.
Pre repair
Zipties because racecar
All done.
I've personally seen all the pieces of this puzzle but still not sure what the design parameters are here. Speedster challenge car with 350z suspension? Or is it two speedsters? I can't remember.

Close! Speedster Challenge car with 350z suspension is one of three speedsters in this thread. We haven't started on the Model A yet.

Shenanigans.
We slept in this morning and then made Pat's famous hood waffles before heading out.
Arrived to the 350z.
Front bumper mounted with some factory clips and bolts but the passenger side needed a ziptie.
Hard to tell in this picture but the reverse lens were loose and pushed back in the bumper.
That meant we needed to get the rear hatch open with a dead battery. I told Lil Stampie that if he crawled in and got it open he could choose where we ate lunch. He gave up after a bit do I googled it and found out about the release under the rear strut bar. Little duck tape and forcing into position got them good enough. Lucky for him I wanted to eat at the same place he wanted.
Afternoon project was getting the 41 Flathead out of the way.
Remade the cart with skids.
Put PVC down. In retrospect should have gone with bigger PVC but it worked.
And it worked. Moved it more in 5 minutes than we did in a hour last week.
I owe wheelsmithy a drink.
Thems eye- gypsum’s was purty smart
Today was rebuilt title inspection day. I stared loading the 350z early because I've never used a car dolly. Turns out that was a good thing because front bumper cover and the trailer wanted to occupy the same space.
So I took it back off and threw it in the pickup bed. There's a Home Depot right next to the inspection office so a quick stop got me zip ties.
I unloaded and discovered the undertray got tangled up also. Removed that and reattached the bumper and we were ready to go.
I walked into their office 20 minutes early having used most of my extra time. The title is still in pimpm3's name so they got started while I waited on him. Thirty minutes later they said it was ready and I went out to see the new approved by the state of Florida sticker.
Found on the side of the road shower doors.
Taken down becomes possible wind defector frame.
Lil Stampie was put in charge of 350z recovery. Emblem and side markers from the bumper.
I saw this and immediately thought that's the type material I want my front suspension frame made of.
Then my brain said "Hey dumbass it's on the side of the road so it's free! Take it." So I grabbed it.
I dunno. You really think a carved wooden table is a good starting point for a suspension?
In reply to TVR Scott :
I was thinking chariot wheel.
For the first time most of the pieces are together so I now introduce the 1925 350T.
After a few delays I picked up the 350Z this morning. It fought me the whole way. First it stalled going into the dolly and wouldn't restart. That meant I had to come-a-long it up on the dolly.
It's only about 3 miles to my house but I don't trust the dolly so I decide to stop half way and check everything. As I'm pulling into a mall parking lot I see the drivers rear tire disassociate itself from the car. I got lucky and stopped with it in this state.
Best I can figure is, I was so dehydrated last summer when I pulled the brakes for pimpm3, I didn't tighten down those lugnuts. Called the ex SWMBO and had her grab my jack so I could get back on the road. Also lucked up in there were spare lugnuts in the floorboard.
When it stalled I noticed it was low on fuel so I stopped and got a couple of gallons of gas. Sure enough it started right up once home. But then backing it into the drive it stalled again and wouldn't start up. I'll have to see what that's all about.

You're touched.
Scott, it may be time to seek professional help.
I mean, comeon. When STAMPIE says you're touched, things have truly gone pear shaped in your life.

I'll agree with that assessment.

Stampie spent most of his afternoon assisting me with the NX2000.
I just wanted to say thank you, it was a big help.
In reply to pimpm3 :
You're welcome. Not sure how much I did other than say I'd rather you break something than me. Was fun seeing my first fwd engine drop.
At work today I saw this sitting on the side of the road.
Got home and tested the light.
The 350T now has a Hella free headlight. Anyone want the airdam before I destroy it?
