The 1995 base coupe I built for last yrs season is ready again after an engine swap and some minor fine tuning.
I was going to swap to a 1st gen paseo 5efe and pulled the driveline and electronics and wiring from a fellow ice racer that was heading for the bone yd.That engine was too tired to use so I bought a JDM engine, when it arrived it turned out to be a 1300cc 4efe....dude left me hanging so no choice but to modify it to use the paseo wiring etc and install it.
I further lightened the car by removing the stock fuel tank and replacing it with a 3 gallon boat tank and Volvo external pump, also lost the passenger seat and the complete power steering setup. The car already is pretty lightened with all lexan windows, lexan hood and trunk, spare tire well removed and replaced with thin aluminum and the parcel tray sawzall'd out.
Careful tracking of weight removed should have the car right at or under 1650lbs.
I'm trying antilift spacers under the front control mounts, made them 1"(most kits move the mount by approx. 10mm)and also offset for additional castor.I'm already using ebay camber plates turned as castor plates and eccentric bolts in the struts for camber.Coilovers all around.
Yes its ugly

The car won 11 of the 1st 13 races last yr before low oil pressure ended its life.
Lousy vid of it,1st couple of laps are fun...after that it boring and you can just click end

Btw the intake setup is a bellmouthed velocity stack air filter combo off amazon for cheap connected to the larger Paseo throttle body with a shopvac elbow I discovered in the shop.
Man you know how to have a good time, that looks fun

I don't know the first thing about ice racing, but judging by what I saw in the video, I'm guessing the car didn't have much to do with those victories.
Nice, smooth driving!
When I zoom in on the picture of the roof mounted brake light, there appears to be a seat belt buckle on the roof.
What is the purpose?
Looks like a holder for an ice racer jousting lance.
Thanks guys, that seat buckle is the high tech quick release system for the roof mounted number board.
My wife also drives the car(she's an awd class champ) so its nice to quickly flip boards, saves dealing with hardware and tools.
We run the opposite direction on sundays, totally changes the track feel. The only other vid I have is from a sunday, more of the same yawn factor.

Billy if you like this car,you should really like my previous ice car.
Heres a fun one,

YES!! we are tercel Brothers! I had 14mm antilift plates on mine but I removed them because they gave me nasty suspension bind. I made my own front control arm bushings and for the rear of the control arm I used Energy Suspension 9.5154G, works perfect.
what ecu are you running?
You have a much nicer engine my friend
Our ice is usually quite smooth due to it being flooded so not so much suspension travel used even with soft springs.I had the struts out when I installed the antilift spacer,my original bushings didn't seem to mind the additional angles imposed.
I'm using the complete harness and ecu from a 1st gen paseo, had some difficulty with the idle stabilization due to having to mod the intake manifold to accept the paseo stuff.Seems sorted now and starts and runs fine hot or cold, have no where to go full throttle thru a gear or two though so not 100% sure its good yet.I tried adding ignition advance but it makes the idle rise and then hunt and have no way to bring it down further to keep the ecu from trying to take over.
Simply backed off the timing to just over stock levels to get the idle low enough it stays steady,it still idles a little higher than stock but that's about perfect for the 2nd gear starts I do while reducing the chances of stalling it.
The frankenturtle is now sitting at the track, passed tech and is waiting in hopes next weekend is a go.The weather gods forgot to start winter until January so the track builders have a had a tough time.

I see you made the "say what" in this months issue....nice.

The little 4efe is working much better than expected.
Fun race from today,I was a little quicker than my buddy in the festiva but wanted to chase so eased up a few times. The festy has a built 1.6 with webers, cam, compression, header etc,my stock 1.3 holds its own with it pretty much solely because the gearing is damn near perfect.

Last day of racing today....sadly I only made it about 3 laps into the 2nd last race.Car needs a bunch of new parts now.At least the season is over now so lots of time to repair.

Ouch, that sucks.
I am really going to have to get to Minden one of these years to watch all you going ice racing. It's not really that far of a drive for me.
Damn, that's a shame.
Do you run front brakes on those cars?
Yes we're required to have brakes on all wheels,my car would never stop with just rears as its very light.
The guy I hit is a very good friend of mine,he kisses that bank most laps so I didn't lift at all when I saw him touch it.By the time I saw the front climb the bank it was WAY to late.
Tried to get my car stuffed in the bank before I hit him but didn't quite make.
