Here is my newest project vehicle. Truck is a 1985 C10 Silverado with a 305 V8 and rebuilt 700R4. It came with an Edelbrock intake and carb long with a new distributor, heads and dual exhaust. Its not fast by any means but makes pleasant V8 sounds. Body could use some paint work but the truck has new doors, fenders, and tailgate. Rockers and cab corners were replaced at some point. Truck also has new brakes, front suspension, and rear leaf springs. My goal is to have a fun muscle truck to cruise around in and do trash/home depot run.
4/6 and impala ss wheels.
Haven't decided of if i want to go 2.5/4 drop or 4/6. Since I plan on using it as a truck still i don't want to go too low. For wheels I like slotted mags but they are only 7" wide if that. I'm thinking 15x8 or 15x10 truck rally wheels all around.
Looks like a great start. My dad had one kinda like that when I was a kid, but lower trim, long bed, and dog poop brown, with a 700R4 and mild 350. This was back when cheap tires were a lot cheaper, and he rarely left a stop without wearing them out a little quickly.

Looks good - nice shape. I do love me some slot mags but those do look a little small on the rear.

I have recently fallen in love with these trucks. Been looking for one just like this.
Id want a 4/6 drop, red, removed absolutely every piece of trim and badge, 17" TT2s, and possibly a stock 5.3 swap or a SBC 350 with a tiny cam and vortec heads, backed by an auto.
My daily is a '77 Silverado, shortened, 5/7, snotty cam and whatnot. Not the best in mileage, but it puts a smile on my day.
4/6 and it's still gonna have 2" rake
Nice truck!
Don't go too low. And if you're not going to stick with those wheels, a set of Cragars would look right on a five bolt Chevy from that era.
Cragars look awesome. Turbines look awesome too. I'm running 'Vette rallys with beauty rings and derbies - they were cheap.
4/6 drop cragar soft 8s in 16 with 235 fronts and 255 rears (or 255 front and 275 rear if feeling aggressive) and by all means keep that awesome sunvisor.
Nice, sounds like its operating fine in that case I'd be tempted to leave it at a set of wheels and general maintenance and be done. "If it ain't broke..."
Wow! that looks nice! Could I inquiry to the purchase price?
I think this is the best wheel look on those trucks
i love the slots, but not on this truck. maybe it's the red. my 2 favorite 5x5 factory 15's are the 454SS wheels and the 15x8 truck rallys.
My goofball idea would be Porsche phonedials on adapters but that probably isn't going to be very popular with anyone else.
Guys, this thing is awesome. I've been in it a few times now, and the sights and smells bring us right back to high school, doing burn outs and raising hell. We might do a photo shoot with it and our friend's truck in our old high school parking lot soon.
And for the record, while I like the slots, they are WAY too narrow. My official vote is to drop it (but not too much) and get some 15x10 Truck Rally wheels at all four corners with some bitchin white letter tires.
I want a cool old truck now too.
AWESOME Muscle Truck Score!
No, no, slots can look cool:
Same builder as the awesome Squarebody Syndicate C10 that came to SEMA.
I passed up the opportunity to buy a black version of this same truck a month ago, still kicking myself. Stupid house closing.
Nice truck! I like the slotted mags just put wider tires. I used to have a '95 s10 with the stock 15x7 steelies and was able to fit 275/60/15s on the back...
Very nice! Looks like a time machine! I like the weathered slots; I remember a couple kids at school with the exact same truck with slots or Cragars in the mid-late 80s (this actually looks better than many of them).
The widened steelies with stock hubcaps look good as well!
Welcome to C10 ownership.
I have a 79 GMC shortbox that I took to the challenge a couple of years ago. After replacing the carb, a couple of burnouts later I blew the pinon seal in the rear. It's been on the side burner to be fixed but will be this summer. Either a vortec head swap is coming, or a Buick 430 I have sitting in the garage might find a home in it.
These things are just so appealing and I'm not sure why. Awesome truck.
Thanks guys! The first vehicle I drove back in high school was my Dad's red 1985 C10 long bed. I miss how simple that truck was so I decided to find another.
Engine compartment on the new truck is pretty clean. So far the only thing I want to do is replace the fuel filter since its a clean plastic one and looks brittle.
I started looking into the rear suspension and noticed the new leaf springs have 6 leafs instead of 4 or 5. Looks like the PO installed springs from a K10. Plan for now is to pull the 5th leaf to soften it up.
I'm also thinking about going with a hanger and shackle drop while I'm in there. Front hanger must have been removed before since there are bolts instead of rivets. Also I could flip the rear but that would end up lower then I want.
Before any of the suspension stuff happens the 2 things I need to fix first are the fuel gauge and the seat belts. I let my friend drive the truck and he ran out of gas. Luckily it has dual tanks so it wasn't a problem. Gas gauge is pegged full so I'm going to check the grounds at the senders. As for the seat belts they don't like to retract anymore so I'm going to order a new set from LMC.
