nice truck. The wide steelies with the dog dish cps above are awesome, but I think they look better with the two tone. I like the wide rallies, but get the flat center caps, not the vette style. Or run 'em naked.
LMC's amazing.

Not having a working fuel gauge hasn't been too bad with dual fuel tanks. I was driving home with the wife the other day and a mile from my house the truck starts to bog like its out of fuel. I casually reach down and hit the switch for the other tank and keep driving. Wife was so confused and amazed.
Anyway thought it would be nice to make the gauge work so I started testing the wiring to the gauge. Since there are 2 sending units I was hoping it was just the switching unit or the gauge. Turns out there was no signal coming from either tank.
Dropped the passenger tank first. In the process of doing that I noticed it was damp around the strap but didn't see any rust. turns out the prior owner patched the tank, taped over the poor repair, then painted over it. Hanger was also rotted and pop riveted together.
With the tank and sending unit out, I grounded the signal wire and the fuel gauge moved all the way to empty instead of the gauge being beyond full all the time. turns out the ground wire to the sender had a poor connection. Instead of the wire going from the sender to the frame, there was a sheet metal screw into the tank the other end went to a painted spot on the frame above the tank. Since I have to order a new tank and couldn't put everything back together I moved onto the other side.
Passenger side also had some wiring issues. Someone painted the sending unit then hook everything up. Cleaning up the contacts fixed that but the ground wires were still questionable. There was one wire going to the tank strap and then there was another balled up stuffed above the tank. Replacing it and mounting it to a clean section of the frame fixed that.
Before and after.

Yes, this. All old GM trucks look great on Soft 8s. I prefer the earlier '73-ish front clip as well.
