I bought a bottle of high quality alcohol and this was delivered to my door
I'm thinking I probably should stay away from the alcohol.
So the story goes like this: boy buys GRM Challenge car, boy sells Challenge car for tidy profit after realizing he couldn't do what he needed under budget. Boy buys better version of initial car closer to budget but needs to sell drivetrain to make budget. Boy launches apex seals. Boy sells car and is +$100 afterwards. Boy talks to Australian. E36M3 gets sideways quickly as both agree to terms on caged 1985 Camaro Z28 shell and a bottle of scotch.
Two engine options currently available. One the 1999 4.8 LS intended fit the RX8. The second is the 1989 5.7 from the family _armtruck.
I can build the 5.7 to make enough power to exceed the limits of the owners skillset for a little money. Use the 4.8 in the _armtruck with a reman transmission and have two stupid problem vehicles or I can put a cam, springs, big exhaust with the LS and make a solid 300hp.
I'm leaning one way and would love suggestions.
I'll find you a 20 yr.old bottle of single Malt and 100.00 bucks
I see no whiskey in this post.
"Boy talks to Australian. E36 M3 gets sideways". Sounds legit, where is that skidpad?
go to a swap meet find the Makings for a 400 horse 350 for 5-600 bucks,I'll bring the Avacado's you bring the Scotch. see you at the Show
my opinion is stay away from Things like reverse rotation water pumps and front mount Ignition and FI for inexpensive power. If you own a battery Charger you don't even need an alternator and Def. not A power steering pump,or find a vega type with a remote tank, the mount brkt's, are Dirt track cheep.
Funny the battery charger is on the hood

Is that the 4.8 from Pat's runner parts truck? If you go 5.7, we should talk about that 4.8. I regret not moving on it earlier..

If the goal is 300hp, the 5.7 is the overall easier route as installed in a 3rd gen F-blob. All the parts are out there in salvage yards to fit the thing if that car is missing anything you might need. 4.8 is going to be more involved. I like the 4.8 idea if either insane power with a turbo or good all-arounder with decent mpg's is the goal. But I doubt this is really going to be a street car at any point in the future; I vote in support of GTXVette's message. And yeah, it's a 350, 400hp probably isn't much more hard on the budget than 300 would be.
That's odd, 3rd gen F bodies usually are associated with domestic liquor, Jack Daniels if you're lucky, PBR if you're not.
I guess they have mullets in Scotland too.

Let's see, this story has whiskey, an aussie, and a camaro. There's no way any of this is going wrong.
In reply to QuasiMofo:
If you can use a flat tappet cam for the 5.7 I can help you out. I'm not sure if all 350's were roller cam by then though?
In reply to petegossett:
This happens to be a flat tappet engine. What do you have?
the later 350 blocks I think 1 piece rear main seal type had the holes to mount roller Keepers. there are kits to use this set up in earlier blocks but not as cheap as you might want, then it comes to using Earlier heads or the Tulip type spring keepers to clear the seals on later heads, petes cam should get about 375-to a little more with 10 to 1 comp. not a bad cam at all.
In reply to QuasiMofo:
Enginetech ES888R It was a bit too much cam for street use, and I would have needed different valve spring retainers to use it with my heads.
I have a desire to go camping this summer. Can I pitch a tent in your yard and just enjoy the view for an evening?
In reply to petegossett:
Yes please. Check eMail shortly

There is a fair amount of acreage around us. We have 2 acres and rights to surrounding 26 1/2. It's a nice place to live.
In reply to QuasiMofo:
I texted you, please let me know if you didn't receive it.
Ao it looks like the "which engine" issues are sorted out. Josh and Pat please let me know how everything works out. Pete, we will be talking soon.
Next up is does anyone know the approximate spring rates of a good handling F body? Jeff Lavoy I'm looking at you. I have the Moog number for the rear, anything special up front? Specific shocks? The OE ones appear sound but there is ZERO weight besides cage on it.
The 275s appear to fit but I'm certain that will change with load.
