Thanks AC. Not much on cars but I like building my space out too. I find it just as fun and can't wait for my forever shop.

Lame shop fun in the heat.

Time to clean the Golf's air filters. Not really into them as they are just foam elements and do not appear to be the oiled variety. Not even sure if Forge is a decent name in VWs but the canisters and replacement elements are $110 each so I went with a clean and inspect.

Pic from pg2 shows how the are in the engine bay:

The one on the left goes to the stock air inlet and was much dirtier than the one that goes under the light.

not sure I am a fan but as it came with the car it will stay for now.

Terribly worried about the Golf's engine. I had to sit in an hour of traffic leaving work and I over heated. Suddenly the windshield fogged up and I saw coolant spewing from the pass aft of the hood where the coolant bulb is.

Temp gage always reads 190...reminds me of the answer nc2? a '99 temp gage just there for show.

I got home more than 5 hours after I left work.

Think I lost the pump, the sensors, and maybe the 2nd fan, I hope nothing else...

The belt is damaged for about 1/4".

GREAT news!

Sort of. I have no space and zero time to work on my cars right now. I am in VA for work now just after this happened. Very typical when my E36 M3 breaks.

Repair is less than $300, and I did not hurt the motor. Hell yeah!

berkeley me I was worried.

I should have my R back next week. I get home in a couple days.

Every clamp on the cooling system was loose by 4 turns, tightened and pressure tested sat. Serp belt and tensioner were bad.

After 2 years of ownership I have no clue how/why the clamps would have loosened other than vibration.

Back home tomorrow and, hopefully, pick up the car Friday. Last cars and coffee is this Sunday so hopefully I can make that.

As you can probably see all this travel for work really interferes with my ability to work on my own cars.

I am very happy that it was simple instead of horribly wrong.

Golf is back. I missed it. Probably hit the last Seacoast Cars and Coffee of the season on Sunday.

Getting ready for the mad scramble of "winterizing" the yard, er parking lot.

I absolutely hate most stock VW rims. But for $200 with Toyo winters (1 season) for the set I will run them.

I would love love love an 18" version of the classics:

Ayup, it's time.  I had a job visit at Pease yesterday at 9:00 so I left the homestead at 6:00 just in case. (95 miles or so.)  Ended up sitting for the better part of an hour between the tolls and exit 3 on 95 N.   At least 3 cars spun out, I saw one of them getting loaded up onto a ramp truck; Rivian pick up that was pretty well wadded up.  An expensive morning for a few people, hopefully no one was hurt.

Glad you made it ok. Last week on the 615s has been tough mostly due to wet leaves.

Next time you roll up this way let me know, I'll scoot from work and buy you a sarsaparilla or something and have lunch.

Toyo's are loud, rt615s were too so I guess I am just berkeleyed. Good thing the exhaust is loud as E36 M3 too.

Have I posted the headliner material I want for the Golf?

Typical VW headliner issues. Probably get it done next spring. If you do not know a Golf R has blue for the gage needles so this fits nice. Should be subtle but stunning once seen.

Well, I think the Golf is hurt pretty bad.

On the way to work this AM it started smoking really bad and popping. I turned around and called out. 6 hours later I try starting it and it is all smoke from the exhaust. Add a blinking check engine light and possibly milky oil. I stopped looking after that.

Well, E36 M3.
