It looks to me like they hinged the whole front of the car drivetrain and all like go karts do with the rear of the kart. Must make for a great ride with all the unsprung weight.

It kind of reminds me of an R/C pan car, except they only race on perfectly smooth carpet so not the thing you want to replicate life sized.
