That is exactly the kind of boat I am talking about, almost the exact same blue too! you can see that adventure and where it's at over here https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/grassroots-watersports-old-boat-content-ahoy/87432/page1/
Cobra is patiently waiting for me to stop playing with other cars and work on it.
Snapped a couple of pictures of the new wheel.
Definitely makes it a much nicer place to be.
Nice looking wheel!
What's this Cobra you're talking about for next?

Awesome car!! I've always wanted one, I'll follow this one with interest.
I was hoping you would continue to trade this fixed, functional car for a lightly broken vehicle from the next rung up... Like a 996 Carrera S
In reply to Mitchell:
Well with me getting ready to move across 3 states again I need to thin the heard before going. That and not seeing anything interesting like a slightly worn 996 out there.
Well I am happy to say that the Merc is gone on to it's new owner, he was very happy with the car and I think it'll give him at least another 150k miles of service if not more if properly maintained. So this may or may not be the scene in my driveway right now. I plan on taking the MS3 to carmax and seeing what I can get for it without doing anything to it.
If it were me, I'd take the plain Mazda3 to Carmax and keep the MS3...

I wouldn't waste the time to take it to Carmax. Granted, I don't know your market, but they offered me $3000 for a car we sold through Facebook two days later at $4200 (04 Toyota Matrix with a manual).
Oh, and I second the idea of keeping the sportier of the two wagons.
Great job on the resto-flip man. Like most people, I would've been scared off by the tristar and AMG badges.
In reply to Jambo and Javelin:
The wife unit wouldn't take too kindly to me selling her ride. She's not a fan of manual transmissions so keeping this one for her is out.
I atleast want to see what they offer. I'm hoping they offer 10k or more. Most people don't have that laying around like Flight Service suggested a few posts back, and I don't really want to spend months trying to offload this only to get $1000 more than Carmax offered.

Ha-ha, you should see what they offer and then post it up here for $100 more, but with the stipulation that the money has to be in your account with the keys in the new owner's hand before the Carmax offer expires.
It would be like the greatest race (to an MS3.)
Best of luck with it all and a great flip if you ask me.
Wait. You traded the merc for that MS3?

That is not surprising. Carmax and similar stores are not really interested in cars that old. I'd bet there was a 99.9% chance it would have gone straight to the auction house had you taken their offer.
Now the MS3 is much newer and something they may keep to sell on the lot, so it's very possible they'll offer a more competitive amount.

That makes sense I guess. I hadn't really thought about the age of the car, just the lowball offer.
Then again, the flip side of that is that an MS3 isn't exactly a Toyota Camry, so it might not appeal to the everyman that visits the Carmax lot for a steaming hot pile of no-haggle pricing.
In any event, let us know how it works out if you don't mind. Now I'm genuinely curious to see if I misjudged Carmax.

Hard to say. I bought my Grand Caravan at a similar chain - Car Sense. While waiting for paperwork to happen, I browsed other cars they had and there were a few "enthusiast" type cars. One was a Challenger R/T with a 6 spd manual. So you never know. I'm curious to hear what they offer him as well.
My friends tat work in recon at Carmax buy the modified cars like yours because company policy forbids selling on the lot. If you have the stock parts you might need to swap them on for carmax to make a legit offer. I'd mention that if they give you a low price.
Interesting development on this. The Mercedes turned out well.
The Merc turned out fantastic. I'd be willing to bet you came out ahead on that deal. I'd say keep it but since it's SWMBOs car tread carefully....

So currently there are 14 MS3's on Carmax lots across America, all range in price from $17K to $21k. With the one that's $17k being the closest to the miles on this one. So it'll be interesting to see how low they go. If they come back with it being too low I'll ask them how much they would give if it had no aftermarket parts. If it's worth it, I'll hunt down those parts and put it back to stock.
In reply to Ian F:
not 99.9%, 100% The Merc was outside year and mileage guidelines for MB.
With Carmax it is binary, 1 day out, it goes to the show instead of the lot.
Torx, It may too late, but once they give it an appraisal they aren't likely to go up often. Depends on the store. Just saying you run a risk getting it appraised with the aftermarket stuff on it first.
Oh yeah I worked at Carmax for 3 1/2 years.
In reply to Flight Service:
Hmm interesting. I suppose once it's appraised it's in the computer system and even if I take it to another location it'll come up as having been appraised already. Well that makes this an even more difficult guess of will the money in equal more money out.

All Carmax stores are interconnected to a central main frame. A car the was appraised in LA shows up in the system in Miami in a few minutes.
That's what I thought. I guess I could put it up here on the boards for sale. NADA on it is $11,500 in rough shape. I really only want to see $11,000 out of it. I think that's a pretty good deal.
